Kia currently has no plans for a GT version of the EV2

Kia does not plan to release a particularly sporty GT version of the compact electric SUV EV2 in the near future. A member of the product team told Auto Express. This claim from an insider contradicts what CEO Ho Sung Song said in 2024.

At that time, the company leader stated that Kia intended to continuously introduce GT variants for its dedicated electric vehicles. This has been implemented so far with models such as the EV3, EV4, and EV5 GT, as well as the already existing EV6 GT and EV9 GT.

Auto Express speculates that the decision against a GT version of the EV2 might be related to the low profit margins in the small electric vehicle segment. Existing GT models, on the other hand, target more expensive and profitable market segments.

According to the report, a potential EV2 GT project depends partly on the success of a sporty N version of the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 3, as both vehicles share the same technical foundation. This means technical solutions could be reused between the models. While Hyundai is currently focusing on hybrid successors to the i20 N and i30 N, strong sales of a possible Ioniq 3 N could accelerate the development of an EV2 GT.

A potential EV2 GT would offer significantly higher performance than the currently maximum 108 kW (146 hp). This would enable the EV2 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in as fast as 8.7 seconds, reaching speeds of up to 161 km/h. The regular versions of this series cost starting at 26,600 euros in this country. The GT-Line version, priced at least 37,340 euros, does not include any changes to the drive or suspension system, only additional features such as 19-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, a sport steering wheel, sport pedals, or SUV-style design elements in the vehicle’s color.
