KEY 2027: the energy transition returns as the focus at Rimini

KEY27-The Energy Transition Expo is set to reopen at the Rimini Fair from March 10 to 12 next year. It features an expanded exhibition area and a program focused on the infrastructure needed to accelerate the energy transition. At the end of the article is a form to download a free ticket.
Organized by Italian Exhibition Group, the event emphasizes not only renewable energy production but also the technologies required to integrate it into the grid and convert it into usable energy for businesses, buildings, and transportation.
More focus on infrastructure for integrating renewables
The new edition of KEY will occupy 26 pavilions at the Rimini Fair for the first time, with a redesigned layout of the spaces. The most significant change relates to the increasing importance of electrical infrastructure. This has become a key issue as renewable energy generation grows and there is a need to manage increasingly variable energy flows.
The exhibition layout will retain the seven traditional categories of the event: solar, wind, hydrogen, energy storage, energy efficiency, electric mobility, and Sustainable City.
In the solar section, Pavilion B5 will host the area dedicated to Power Distribution & Electrical Components. Technologies such as transformers, electrical cabinets, and distribution components will be showcased. These are elements that may not be immediately visible but are essential for connecting systems to the grid and supporting the electrification of various applications.
The space dedicated to EPC—short for the activities of project design, procurement, and construction—and finance remains confirmed as well. The goal is to facilitate dialogue among industry players, developers, and investors, especially at a time when project completion depends on access to capital and the ability to bring projects to fruition.

Storage, Energy Efficiency, and Sustainability
Energy efficiency will also play a cross-cutting role. In the dedicated section, the H.O.M.E.- Healthy, Optimized, Measured, Efficient project will continue, with in-depth coverage of technologies and materials for more efficient, intelligent, and sustainable buildings. The Energy Efficiency Award will also be introduced, created in collaboration with FIRE and Legambiente.
In the wind energy sector, Su.port-Sustainable Ports for Energy Transition will be continued, an initiative addressing the role of ports in decarbonization, with particular focus on the electrification of docks.
The offering is completed by the dedicated sections HYPE-Hydrogen Power Expo, EME-e-Mobility Expo, and Sustainable City. This confirms a program that connects production, distribution, consumption, and new energy vectors.
Finally, within the Innovation District, innovative startups and SMEs selected through a Call for Start-ups will have a space. The Green Jobs&Skills initiatives and the Lorenzo Cagnoni Innovation Award will also return.

KEY27, conferences: focus on data centers and electricity demand
The scientific program, curated by the Technical Scientific Committee chaired by Gianni Silvestrini, will once again address the changes in the international energy market.

Among the emerging topics in the new schedule of conferences, in-depth discussions, and networking events are particularly Data Centers.
These are increasingly essential infrastructure for digitalization and the development of digital services, but they feature high electricity consumption and strict requirements for uninterrupted power supply.
The growth of these facilities poses concrete challenges for the energy system: power availability, network reliability, cooling system efficiency. And the possibility of integrating supplies from renewable sources.
KEY27’s International Partnerships
It is worth noting that KEY will also focus in 2027 on strengthening its international presence through the participation of various foreign countries and collaboration with industry associations, industry players, and delegations of hosted buyers.
The fair’s promotion program has already visited strategic overseas markets such as Morocco and Germany, as well as Canada.
The schedule of events for KEY 2027 will begin before the fair opens. On March 9, 2027, at Palacongressi in Rimini, KEY CHOICE – Unlock the future of PPA will return, a B2B event organized by Italian Exhibition Group in partnership with Elemens and focused on Power Purchase Agreements.
On March 10, the fair will officially kick off and run until March 12.
