Kempower launches EV charger leasing model in the UK

Kempower has completed its first UK EV charging project financed through leasing partner DLL. The installation at a Bedfordshire forecourt features eight fast-charging points and is intended to lower the upfront investment required for independent charging operators.
The financing model combines hardware leasing with maintenance services, enabling charging operators to spread investment costs while securing long-term operational support from Kempower. According to the company, the model lowers the upfront financial hurdle for charging infrastructure projects and helps accelerate the rollout of public DC fast charging.
Kempower and DLL launched their financing partnership in 2024 to support the rollout of DC fast charging infrastructure across Europe. The installation at the Astwick service station in Bedfordshire marks the first UK project delivered under the scheme.
The charging hub is located on the northbound A1 near Hitchin. It comprises four Kempower Double Satellite chargers with a total of eight CCS2 charging points. The chargers are connected to two Kempower Power Units, enabling charging capacities of up to 400 kW per connected vehicle.
“Responses to our new chargers have been overwhelmingly positive from others in the industry,” said Shilan Raja, Director at HSRL. “This project is the result of the collaboration between teams of people passionate about e-mobility, so it makes me proud to see the chargers being used by EV drivers every day. Financing the project through Kempower with DLL was a huge enabler.”
Kempower says the leasing model is particularly aimed at smaller and independent forecourt operators seeking to expand into EV charging without making substantial upfront capital investments.
“We partnered with Kempower because we wanted to enable its customers to be successful without the significant initial capex,” said Mark McLoughlin, Energy Transition Country Commercial Manager for UK & Ireland at DLL. “In today’s world, where the initial cost of hardware is high, our financing solutions can make the deployment of EV chargers easier and more affordable.”
