KBA: Number 1 in alternative powertrains for August 2026

The German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) released a report in August 2026 on the number one model in each vehicle segment and among alternative drive types.

In the reporting month, the top-selling model changed in three segments: In the mini car segment, the Dacia Spring was the most registered model, while in the compact car segment it was the Opel Corsa. Among utility vehicles, the Ford Transit Custom had the highest number of new registrations. The other segments retained their top-selling models from the previous month.

Among the models with the highest registrations by alternative drive type, there was only one change compared to the previous month: no new registrations were recorded for fuel cell drive type in August 2026.

For the other drive types, the same models with the highest registrations from the previous month appeared. The Skoda Elroq was once again the most registered electric/BEV model, while among plug-in hybrids it was the BYD Seal U. For hybrid drive type (excluding plug-in hybrids), the VW T-Roc led once more. In the full hybrid category as well, the Toyota Yaris repeatedly ranked as the model with the highest registrations.

The vehicle with the highest number of new registrations in the gas-powered category (overall) remained the Dacia Sandero. No new registrations were recorded for hydrogen-powered vehicles.
