Jeep Renegade as an electric vehicle: Is the compact SUV returning?

The Jeep Renegade, a 4.24-meter-long gasoline SUV, has not been available since 2025. However, the model could return—based on the new STLA-One platform, which also supports all-electric models. A rendering shows what the second generation of Renegade might look like.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, production of the first generation of Renegade ended in Melfi, Italy, at the end of 2025. The model had already stopped being available for order in some markets earlier on. Since then, there has been a gap in Jeep’s lineup between the 4.08-meter-long Avenger and the 4.55-meter-long Compass. Stellantis plans to fill this gap in the future.

In May 2026, two new compact SUVs were announced at Stellantis’ Investor Day, intended to fill the gap between the Avenger and Compass. Both are expected to be built on the STLA One platform and offered with all-wheel drive. Stellantis has not yet revealed the names for these models, but there are rumors that the well-known name Renegade could return. Stellantis showed a teaser image of one of the models:

The image shows a boxy SUV that closely resembles the Jeep Compass, thanks in part to its yellow-green paint color. The front lighting design above the grille and the angular wheel arches are clear nods to the Compass. Based on this teaser image, the colleagues at Motor1 Italia have now created a rendering.

The rendering shows a very upright front with a martial-looking bumper. The lighting signature differs significantly from that of the Compass, but the style is similar to it.

The new STLA One platform is set to be used starting in 2027. The first model based on this platform will likely be the new Peugeot E-208, a B-segment vehicle (compact car). However, C-segment compact cars and D-segment mid-size models are also expected to be possible. In addition to conventional internal combustion engines, the platform supports hybrid and all-electric powertrains as well. It also accommodates 800-volt systems, all-wheel drive, and steer-by-wire technology. Whether the new Renegade will be offered as a gasoline, mild hybrid, or electric vehicle like the Avenger remains to be seen.

In summary

Is Jeep planning an electric Renegade? Given the size gap in its model lineup, it makes sense for the model to return. But whether it will indeed be the model teased in May is far from certain. We’ll have to wait and see.
