Janus Electric secures repeat order for six US electric truck conversions

Australian truck repowering specialist Janus Electric has secured a repeat order from the California-based King Fio Trucking. The ~AU$3.1 million order comprises six Class 8 electric truck conversions and six JBS-650 swappable battery sets.

This latest order brings King Fio’s total inventory from Janus up to 12 converted trucks and 14 battery sets for use in container transport operations around the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The additional vehicles will use the charging and battery-swapping infrastructure installed for King Fio’s original order, including a Janus Charge and Change Station equipped with two 250 kW chargers. The company says this will allow the fleet operator to expand without investing in another charging station. The order remains conditional on the approval of the applicable Californian incentives.
Once delivered, Janus expects to have 16 converted trucks operational across the greater Los Angeles area by the end of the year, including the first six vehicles purchased by King Fio, four for Ability Tri-Modal, and six for Tradelink. The company said this will bring its total number of operational vehicles up to 46 across the US and Australia. In total, the new order lifts its North American order book to 124 trucks, representing a combined gross contract value of approximately AU$64.6 million. This includes orders from other California-based fleets, including 67 orders placed in July 2026.
Ben Hutt, CEO and managing director of Janus Electric, said: “King Fio’s decision to double its order is another strong endorsement from our existing customers of our technology and demonstrates continued demand for our electric truck conversion and battery-swapping solution. Importantly, the additional trucks will use the charging and battery-swapping infrastructure included in King Fio’s original order, demonstrating the scalability of our model and how fleet operators can expand fleets without having to duplicate charging facilities.”
The announcement follows recent developments in Janus Electric’s relationship with its battery supplier. On 28 October, Canadian manufacturer Electrovaya agreed to make a strategic equity investment of approx. AU$2 million in Janus through a share placement, subject to completion conditions. This aims to provide additional working capital for Janus’ North American expansion.
It builds on an earlier battery supply agreement established in July 2025 between Janus and Electrovaya. Janus has since placed initial purchase orders worth approx. AU$37.5 million for Electrovaya battery systems to support its 124 North American truck orders and commitments, with deliveries already underway. Each Janus conversion uses approximately 600 kWh of battery capacity.
