Iveco Bus introduces an electric minibus named eFlexy

Iveco Bus is entering the segment of electric compact minibuses with a new six-meter-long series. The 5-ton vehicle is available in two versions – as the eFlexy City for urban use and as the eFlexy Line for scheduled services, shuttles, and long-distance travel.

The vehicle is currently making its European debut at the FIAA in Madrid (September 22–24) and belongs to the M2 vehicle class. Both variants of this series are designed for passenger transport, yet their maximum allowable weight remains below the five tons required for this class. The eFlexy City operates in the M2 segment as a Class A vehicle primarily for urban use, while the eFlexy Line belongs to Class B and is thus suitable mainly for scheduled services, as well as for shuttle and intercity bus use. The bodywork for the eFlexys was provided by the Italian company Olmedo. First deliveries of the eFlexy vehicles are scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

It is clear that Iveco Bus does not use an independently developed powertrain for these models, but rather Stellantis’ technical platform. This is because Iveco and Stellantis Pro One reached a corresponding agreement in 2025 for electric transport vehicles. We are already familiar with the technical specifications of the eFlexys from the trucks and minibuses of brands such as Ducato, Opel, Peugeot, and others. The partnership between Iveco and Stellantis Pro One is set to last ten years.

Iveco is explicitly expanding its electric fleet with the new Duo range “from compact passenger transport solutions to 18-meter long articulated city buses, as well as 12- and 13-meter intercity models,” the company based in northern Italy states in a release. These electric minibuses will offer operators, transportation authorities, and private transit companies “flexible, emission-free solutions for a variety of short-distance routes, combining accessibility, passenger comfort, and range,” the statement adds.

Lightweight design contributes to a 300 km range

Technically, both vehicles are equipped with a 205-kW electric motor and an 110-kWh battery, which is said to provide a range of around 300 kilometers — known as Stellantis’ aforementioned powertrain. The series can be charged using AC chargers with outputs of 7.4 kW, 11 kW, or optionally 22 kW, as well as DC chargers with up to 150 kW. According to Iveco, the eFlexy minibuses take less than an hour to reach 80 percent charge level when using DC charging. The manufacturer further specifies that the design focused primarily on weight optimization through aluminum trim elements and ABS components, “which increases range without compromising durability or manufacturing quality.”

The City version and the standard model differ mainly in vehicle height and seating arrangement: The slightly taller eFlexy City, chosen as the preferred option for urban routes with high passenger volumes, can accommodate up to 17 passengers plus the driver. Alternatively, there is also an accessible version with nine seats, two standing areas, and one wheelchair space. An rear wheelchair lift is provided for the accessible configuration.

The eFlexy Line can carry up to 13 passengers, plus the driver. Alternative seating configurations include eleven seats with more spacious accommodations or a barrier-free setup with eight seats and one wheelchair space. According to the Sustainable Bus portal, its features include adjustable seats with integrated seat belts and headrests, a continuous flat floor, and an electrically operated side staircase at the 1.2-meter-wide sliding door.

Both vehicles offer three driving modes and four regenerative braking levels, aiming to provide a driving experience “similar to that of a car.” The cockpit features touch control interfaces, an infotainment system, smartphone integration, and navigation solutions. Additionally, they are equipped with driver assistance systems at level 2+.

Shared Service Ecosystem with eDaily

Regarding the service network and connected services, the eFlexys are set to use a common ecosystem with the models from the eDaily series in the future. This includes things such as an eStart Pack, a driver app, and offerings for advanced services related to charging and fleet management.

"With the eFlexy Line and eFlexy City, Iveco Bus expands its zero-emission offering to a segment that holds increasing strategic importance for operators: compact, barrier-free, and flexible passenger transport," says Giorgio Zino, Head of Commercial Operations at Iveco Bus Europe. "Available in City and Line versions, this new electric minibus series covers a wide range of daily applications—from urban routes and demand-responsive services to shuttle services—and helps our customers implement their decarbonization strategies."
