India’s Mahindra brand is poised to launch in the UK next year with three all-electric SUVs designed at its design studio in Banbury, Oxfordshire.
Reports suggest that Mahindra will position itself as “upper mainstream” against the likes of Cupra, DS, and Tesla. These same reports also claim that Mahindra’s first UK model will be the striking looking BE 6, which is set to be priced from around £41,000.
The C-segment Mahindra BE 6 rides on the firm’s dedicated ‘Inglo’ EV platform, and while battery sizes are yet to be confirmed for UK cars, the BE 6 is offered with a choice of 59kWh, 70kWh, and 79kWh batteries in India. These offer a range of between 345 and 424 miles, and are mated to either a 225bhp or a 278bhp electric motor on the rear axle. The largest battery is sourced from BYD.
Mahindra’s second UK model is expected to be the XEV 9e, a D-segment SUV aimed at the likes of the Volvo EX60 and the BMW iX3. The Mahindra XEV 9e will ride on the same Inglo architecture and share the same cabin as the BE 6. However, its larger dimensions suggest a starting price of around £48,000.

Both cars will feature a tech-heavy interior, with a panoramic screen housing the driver cluster and the central touchscreen. A separate front passenger touchscreen is an optional extra.
The BE 6’s cabin also has an unusual ‘halo’ structure separating the driver and passenger as a reference to Mahindra’s Formula E programme, which has been a constant fixture in the sport since its foundation in 2014. To date, the Banbury-based outfit has scored 6 wins, 33 podiums, 13 poles positions, and 13 fastest laps.
The final model is expected to be the BE 07 flagship, which is also yet to go on sale at home in India. However, it runs on the Inglo platform, and is expected to share similar proportions to the Volvo EX40 and the Audi Q4 e-tron.
Mahindra’s plans to enter the UK market date back to 2016, when it launched the all-electric e20 city car to rival the Renault Zoe as part of a strategy to develop an EV line-up for the UK. After just a few months, the e20 was dropped due to slow sales. In 2022, Mahindra once again planned a return with five UK-desiged electric SUVs, but the launch was canned at the 11th hour.
