IM Motors unveiled the new L6 at a price of 199,900 yuan. It represents a low-cost challenge to the Tesla Model 3 and Xiaomi SU7.

IM Motors, a SAIC brand, has launched the new L6 in China at a starting price of 199,900 yuan, which is approximately 107 thousand zł when simply converted. The vehicle features an 800 V architecture, a charging speed of up to 396 kW, and a CLTC range of 850 km. On paper, it seems aimed at competing with the Model 3 and Xiaomi SU7.

The IM L6 comes in three standard versions and two limited editions branded under Jimmy Choo. The cheapest variant is also significantly cheaper than during the pre-sale phase.

Prices and versions. Entry below the psychological barrier

The three basic models are priced at 199,900, 217,900, and 259,900 yuan respectively for the Max, Pro Max, and Ultra versions. The cheapest version is 20,000 yuan lower than the price announced during the pre-sale on August 18. This represents a decrease of 9.1 percent.

It also offers purchase incentives: a cash discount of 10,000 yuan, an upgrade package valued at 41,600 yuan, and a lifetime battery warranty for the first non-commercial owner. Classic Chinese price war tactics, just dressed up a bit nicer.

The second option is the Prof. Jimmy Choo bespoke limited edition. The first 1,000 units were sold out immediately, and now a second round of sales has begun. The prices are 219,900 and 237,900 yuan, which is about 10% more than the regular base model. The differences are mainly cosmetic: special body colors, blue interiors, and embroidered logos.

800 V, up to 500 kW and 2.74 seconds to 100 km/h

The new L6 is 4,924 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. It’s available in versions with one engine on the rear axle or two engines with AWD drive.

Max offers 245 kW and a 76 kWh battery, delivering 725 km of CLTC range. Pro Max gets 300 kW, a 93 kWh battery, and up to 850 km of CLTC range. The top-tier Ultra features 500 kW, 800 Nm of torque, a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 2.74 seconds, and a 103 kWh battery that provides 840 km of CLTC range.

The entire lineup uses the 800 V NEO architecture and supports charging at up to 396 kW. The manufacturer claims it can recover as much as 580 km of range in just 15 minutes. Well, according to CLTC standards. In reality, the figure will likely be lower, but the power output alone is impressive.

IM also boasts a fully by-wire chassis. It features a Continental MK C2 brake-by-wire braking system and a steerable rear axle. The rear wheels can turn up to 18 degrees, giving it a turning radius of only 4.39 meters. For a car of this size, this is an excellent result.

The driver assistance system was developed in collaboration with Momenta and is designed to work without HD maps, featuring NOA. The cabin includes a 26.3-inch central screen, a 15.5-inch passenger screen, B&O audio, and a standard 5.7-liter refrigerator with heating and cooling. It represents Chinese premium styling with a full suite of features.

For now, this is only available in China, with no timeline for entry into Europe. But if SAIC ever brings the IM to the EU, Tesla and Xiaomi will face another competitor that doesn’t start at 300,000 yuan but rather at 199,900 yuan. What do you think of this combination of performance, 800 V technology, and Jimmy Choo-inspired designs?
