Vaielettrico’s webinars on electric charging are a must for the tourism industry.

Vaielettrico’s webinars on electric charging are a must for the tourism industry.

A surge in electric cars in key Northern European markets (read more), along with a corresponding increase in electric tourists visiting Italy during the recently concluded season; however, charging services remain a “luxury” for Italian accommodations. It is estimated that there are no more than 3,000 to 4,000 hotels, residences, campsites, and restaurants in Italy equipped with charging stations for guests. And almost all of these are located in two or three border regions in the north. This is a gap that needs to be filled and an untapped opportunity to attract foreign e-drivers traveling to Italy. We will discuss this the day after tomorrow, September 29th, from 11:00 to 12:00, in a webinar organized by Vaielettrico in collaboration with the Elli network and Volkswagen Group, which has just launched the turnkey Connect & Charge solution.

This will provide an opportunity for direct dialogue between industry professionals in the tourism sector and Francesco Quaglieri, Sales Ambassador for Italy at Elli. Joining him is Diego Trabucchi from Charge Guru, who provides technical support for the project.

There’s a “gap” in the charging station incentives: businesses

Meanwhile, the reinstatement of incentives for private charging stations has reinvigorated the wallbox market, increasing demand for installations. However, there is a “gray area” regarding incentives for businesses that wish to install private charging facilities for employees and customers. With the 2024 grant program of 87.5 million euros, which was only partially utilized, no further public funding has been provided. It seems that adapting the hospitality sector to new mobility trends is not considered a strategic necessity for an industry that contributes up to 10% of Italy’s GDP—far more than the entire Italian automotive industry.

Elli Connect & Charge, turnkey charging in hotels

While waiting for the government to reinstate some form of incentive—the 2024 program provided a subsidy of up to 40% of installation costs—Elli, Volkswagen Group’s company focused on charging services, took action. It developed a customized solution called Connect & Charge. The goal is to reduce the technical and operational complexities that often hinder investment. Elli offers an integrated and scalable solution that provides property owners with charging infrastructure, management software, and benefits for guests even when using public charging networks that are interoperable with its own network. This way, charging can become a natural part of hospitality.
