The Mercedes-Benz Class C is one of the most important models in the recent history of this German brand. After several generations featuring internal combustion engines, hybrids, and plug-in hybrids, it finally makes the ultimate leap. For the first time, there is a fully electric Class C—a model that will coexist with the traditional lineup and is designed to directly compete with other next-generation premium sedans, especially the newly launched BMW i3.

This new electric Class C is not merely a variant of the gasoline model to which Mercedes has added a battery. Its exterior design sets it apart from the traditional Class C with a completely distinct body style, while still retaining the classic proportions of a sedan. Notable features include its enclosed and illuminated front end, the Mercedes star that is also backlit, flush door handles, and a silhouette carefully engineered for aerodynamics.

Price of the Mercedes Class C Electric (2026 version)

The Spanish lineup for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class electric vehicle is quite simple, at least initially. The only engine option available is the C 400 4MATIC, with an official starting price of 69,800 euros before adding optional equipment. Mercedes has already opened orders, with the first units expected to arrive at Spanish dealerships starting in September 2026.

Purchasers do have various options to customize the car, beginning with the Avantgarde, AMG Line, and AMG Line Plus trims. The Avantgarde trim offers a more elegant appearance, while the AMG Line provides a sportier aesthetic, and the AMG Line Plus takes this differentiation further with specific design elements and equipment.

From there, Mercedes offers a wide range of options. Among the most interesting are the SKY CONTROL panoramic roof, which can switch between transparent and opaque modes and features 162 illuminated stars; the Burmester 4D sound system; the MBUX Hyperscreen; or the Agility & Comfort package. The latter combines the AIRMATIC air suspension with rear-wheel steering, two features particularly noteworthy in a sedan that measures nearly 4,900 mm in length.

Engine and Fuel Consumption

The electric Mercedes C 400 4MATIC uses two motors, one for each axle, thus featuring all-wheel drive. The combination delivers 489 horsepower and a maximum torque of 800 Nm. Its performance matches these figures, with it accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4 seconds and reaching a top speed of 210 km/h.

The power comes from a battery with a useful capacity of 94 kWh. Mercedes reports a combined fuel consumption of 14.6 kWh/100 km, a particularly low figure considering the vehicle’s size, weight, and power. Thanks to this, it achieves a range of 743 km under the WLTP cycle, which can go up to 852 km if only the urban cycle is considered.

Another of its key advantages is its 800-volt electrical architecture. The Class C can handle up to 330 kW of DC power and can go from 10% to 80% battery charge in 22 minutes. Mercedes also claims that 10 minutes connected to a sufficiently powerful charger allows for a range extension of 250 to 325 kilometers. It comes standard with 11 kW of AC charging, though an optional 22 kW onboard charger is available.

Dimensions of the Mercedes Class C Electric (2026 model)

The new Mercedes Class C electric model is significantly larger than the conventional fuel-powered Class C, with its size nearly matching that of the Class E. Its dimensions are 4,883 mm in length, 1,892 mm in width, and 1,503 mm in height, while the wheelbase measures 2,962 mm. For comparison, it is also 160 mm longer than the Mercedes CLA electric, placing it clearly above the latter in the brand’s lineup of electric sedans.

These dimensions mean its natural competitors are mid-size premium electric sedans, with the new BMW i3 being one of its most direct rivals. It can also serve as an alternative for customers considering models such as the Tesla Model 3, Polestar 2, or even the Mercedes CLA electric itself, although the latter is slightly smaller and has a lower price point.

Interior

Mercedes has taken the opportunity of transitioning to electric powertrains to thoroughly renew the interior of the Clase C. The interior design maintains the brand’s typical premium approach, featuring a dashboard with clean lines, numerous upholstered surfaces, and various customization options through the Avantgarde, AMG Line, and AMG Line Plus packages. Higher trims add more sporty elements, while options include upholstery, trim pieces, and ambient lighting that can significantly alter the interior atmosphere.

Tech is one of its main selling points. The most eye-catching feature is the optional MBUX Hyperscreen, which occupies almost the entire width of the dashboard and combines three separate screens for instrumentation, multimedia, and the passenger area under one surface. The system utilizes Mercedes’ new digital interface and offers connected navigation, voice assistant, remote updates, as well as compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It can also include features such as a head-up display, the Burmester 4D sound system, and numerous additional digital functions.

The 2,962 mm wheelbase particularly enhances the comfort of the second row, one of the areas where this electric Class C outperforms the gasoline version. In the front, the driver and passenger enjoy spacious seats with numerous adjustment options, while the back offers ample longitudinal space and sufficient headroom for two adults to travel comfortably. The middle seat remains less suitable for long trips, but the nearly flat floor makes it easier to stretch out one’s legs when all three seats are used.

Trunk Space of the Mercedes Class C Electric (2026 model)

The rear trunk offers 470 liters of capacity, a fairly decent figure for an electric sedan of its size. The battery doesn’t require significant compromises in this area, and the rear seats can be folded down to transport longer items. For reference, the gasoline-powered Class C has 455 liters in its sedan body, though comparisons depend on the engine chosen.

In addition to these 470 liters, there’s a significant advantage over many electric vehicles. Beneath the front hood lies a second trunk area of 101 liters. In total, there are therefore 571 liters available across both compartments. The so-called frunk is particularly useful for storing charging cables, a backpack, or small items without taking up space in the main trunk.

Opinions

The first electric Mercedes Clase C arrives with enough strengths to become one of the most interesting premium electric sedans available today. Its 489 horsepower is impressive, but what’s likely even more significant are its 743 km of certified range, low official fuel consumption, and 330 kW fast charging capability that make it particularly well-suited for long trips. Additionally, it offers plenty of space, with 570 liters of storage capacity between its two trunks, along with an interior packed with technology.

The starting price of 69,800 euros puts it ahead of more general-purpose options like the Tesla Model 3, but in terms of design, quality, and technology, it seems particularly suitable for those seeking a high-performance electric sedan that can replace a gasoline car with minimal compromises for almost any use case.
