GWM Haval H7: A new Chinese plug-in hybrid SUV with off-road styling arrives in Spain

The Chinese company Great Wall Motor has launched the new Haval H7 in Spain, a 4.80-meter-long SUV whose design and off-road capabilities place it somewhere between a regular sedan and an off-roader. Its straight-line body shape resembles models like the Land Rover Defender or Toyota Land Cruiser, but beneath its surface lies a monocoque chassis rather than one made of frame rails and crossmembers.
It does, however, feature a ground clearance of 210 mm, higher than that of conventional SUVs. Additionally, certain versions (likely those equipped with all-wheel drive) have a wading capacity of up to 380 mm. The wheelbase measures 2.74 meters.
The Haval H7’s cabin is designed to accommodate five passengers. Its dashboard features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch touchscreen; additionally, some variants include a head-up display. Higher trims also come equipped with electrically adjustable seats, four-way lumbar support, heating, and ventilation.
Our subject vehicle is a multi-energy model, available in gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid versions. We will focus on the latter two, designated as PHEV Hi2 and PHEV Hi4 depending on whether the customer chooses front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

The GWM Haval H7 PHEV offers up to 150 km of range in electric mode
The GWM Haval H7 PHEV Hi2 delivers 326 HP (240 kW) and has an electric range of up to 150 km according to WLTP standards. The Hi4 model adds a second electric motor to the rear axle, giving it a combined power output of 435 HP (320 kW). Due to the higher power consumption of this propulsion system, its range is reduced to 129 km under WLTP conditions; however, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
There are two finish levels: Explore and Advance. The first can only be paired with the PHEV Hi2 variant, while the second is available with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The Explore Hi2 starts at 31,875 euros, compared to 33,875 euros for the Advance Hi2. The Advance Hi4, on the other hand, costs 36,375 euros.

It is important to note that these prices include promotional discounts and financing options. GWM did not provide the cash price of the Haval H7 in its press release. Additionally, the vehicle is eligible for a government subsidy of up to 2,250 euros under the Auto+ program, bringing the price of the Explore Hi2 to 29,625 euros, the Advance Hi2 to 31,625 euros, and the Advance Hi4 to 34,125 euros.
