Kia EV4 with the highest Green NCAP rating

The Kia EV4’s battery system can add another significant award to its list of achievements. The model earned five stars in the independent Green NCAP Sustainability Rating, achieving a total score of 90 percent. This is the highest result among the seven vehicles evaluated in the latest round of testing. According to Green NCAP, the car performed very well in all key categories: greenhouse gas emissions (9.5/10), energy efficiency (8.9/10), and air quality (8.8/10).

The test unit was equipped with a traction battery with a capacity of 81.4 kWh and was manufactured in Slovakia. As Green NCAP emphasizes, the European production location and the region’s relatively low-emission energy mix had a positive impact on the vehicle’s environmental rating across its entire life cycle — according to a statement from the Korean brand.

Efficiency matters more than battery size

The experts paid special attention to the model’s energy efficiency. During summer road tests, the EV4 consumed only 13.9 kWh of energy per 100 km. Green NCAP also highlighted the car’s good performance in various driving conditions, including at low temperatures.

“The Kia EV4 effectively brings the capabilities of long-range electric vehicles from the premium segment to the more affordable family car segment. Green NCAP stated that the vehicle offers high efficiency and very good range in diverse driving conditions,” said Dr. Aleksandar Damyanov, technical manager at Green NCAP.

Another advantage listed was the ability for two-way energy flow (V2L/V2X).
