Find out what has arrived in Norway.

Have you heard of BYD’s so-called Flash Chargers? Apparently, the world’s first ultra-fast chargers have arrived in Norway.

Today, BYD’s luxury brand Denza posted a cryptic message on its Norwegian Facebook page, accompanied by the image above:
“Guess what has arrived in Norway. Hint: it might have something to do with charging.”
Hints are always fun, but it’s not hard to guess that the image shows the first of BYD’s so-called Flash Chargers on Norwegian soil.
A charging revolution just around the corner
Flash Charging is BYD’s own ultra-fast charging technology, which combines a new generation of batteries with specially developed chargers, and according to rumors, the goal is to start deploying the Flash network in Norway already this year.
BYD aims to establish up to 100 Flash Charging stations in Norway in the first phase. At the Nordic level, the goal is around 700 stations in the long term.
The chargers will likely be installed in locations with existing charging parks.
One advantage of the new chargers is that they all come with their own battery banks, which will not place a significant load on the power grid.
Five-minute charging break
Charging at these stations is truly fast, assuming the vehicles can handle such high charging speeds:
Compatible vehicles should be able to reach 10 to 70 percent battery capacity in about five minutes.
Charging from 10 to 97 percent should take nine minutes.
Even at temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees, the company claims the battery can be charged from 20 to 97 percent in about 12 minutes.
This means that if the car can charge fast enough, the charging stop will take only slightly longer than filling up with gasoline, even in freezing conditions.
For electric vehicle owners who charge frequently, this could therefore represent a kind of revolution.
Aiming High to Become the Leader in Norway
In August, we reported that BYD Norway hired charging veteran Jan Haugen Ihle to lead the rollout of the company’s Flash Charging initiative in Norway, Sweden, and the UK.
The plan is to establish a extensive network of Flash Charging stations in these countries.
The investment in charging infrastructure is meant to reflect BYD’s goal of becoming one of the top three sellers in Norway within a few years, with an even more ambitious aim of becoming the number one seller.
One of the car models that will be able to make full use of Flash Charging stations is BYD’s Atto 8, which was displayed at the auto show in Paris last fall and is set to arrive in Norway already next year:
– The car combines our latest drive system with second-generation Blade batteries. It offers a range of over 600 kilometers and seating for seven people. Flash Charging allows an electric car to be charged as quickly as a gasoline car is refueled. The fear of limited range is now over, concluded Stella Li, one of BYD’s top executives, regarding the launch.

Denza first?
But it’s likely BYD’s premium brand Denza that will get the honor of testing the first Flash Chargers in Norway, as indicated by a Denza Norway Facebook post as well.
“We’re starting with the luxury brand Denza,” said BYD Norway’s head Jørgen Storm Oksum earlier this fall.
All Denza models are compatible with Flash Charging, and the first vehicles are reportedly arriving in Norway already this year.
According to plans, the first model to come out will be the Z9 GT, a compact SUV—or a full-size station wagon, if you prefer—as you can see from the image above.
So, with a bit of luck, we at electriccar.no will have the opportunity to test this car on a Flash charger in Norway before Christmas.
There are also speculations that this Denza vehicle might make its way to Norway:
