Germany and UK: new sales records

Germany and the UK set new sales records for electric cars, with 37% of the market in Germany and 32.7% in the UK.

Germany and UK follow in France’s footsteps: Europe becoming increasingly electric

We’re not at France’s level, where the share consistently exceeds 41%, but the figures are still impressive. Let’s start with Germany. In October, according to data from the federal authority Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), 94,086 BEVs were sold. This represents a 79.5% increase compared to 52,425 units sold in the same month of 2025. For the second consecutive month, registrations of electric vehicles surpassed those of gasoline (15.1%) and diesel (9.4%) vehicles combined. Plug-in hybrids also saw much lower demand, at 7.9%. The KBA has not yet released a ranking of the best-selling models. It is only known that Tesla slowed its sales in October, after the Model Y ranked first overall (across all powertrains) in September. Meanwhile, Chinese brands continue to thrive: for example, Leapmotor sold 3,661 vehicles in October, a 288.6% increase, bringing its annual total to 19,705 units.

United Kingdom: Over half a million EVs sold by 2026

Very positive figures are also seen in the United Kingdom, with electric vehicle sales rising by 32.7% in October to 48,858 units. This gives them a 32% market share, a new record according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Plug-in hybrid registrations are also strong, though they still account for less than half of EV sales, at 22,898 units (+30.1%) with a 15% market share. Hybrid sales, however, are struggling in Italy: 18,287 units were registered (-5%), representing a 12% market share. There was also a decline in gasoline vehicles (-11.6% to 56,876 units) and diesel vehicles (-15.9% to 5,811 units). Overall, electric vehicle sales in the first 10 months of the year exceeded half a million, specifically 503,805 units, representing a 30.4% increase from 2025. This is thanks to the wide availability of over 180 models on the market, as well as an average range that now exceeds 300 miles (482 km).
