Generational launches digital logbook for used electric cars

Interactive tool with battery health report, cost calculator and real-world range data can be added to online sales listings

Battery health specialist Generational has launched a new tool to help used car buyers gain key insight into secondhand EVs.
The new EV Logbook builds on the firm’s battery health report to provide data ranging from real-world range to a running cost calculator for individual cars, which can be displayed as part of online adverts.
Generational says the service will help sellers and buyers by closing the “confidence gap between consumer interest in EVs and online purchase consideration”. It is designed to answer common vehicle-specific questions such as a specific car’s battery condition, real-world range, charging and running costs.
Concern around the longevity of an EV’s battery remains a key factor in buying decisions. Cox Automotive’s 2026 UK EV Adoption and Perceptions Report found that cost perception, battery myths and charging confidence remain among the most significant barriers to wider adoption. It also found that clearer battery health, degradation and warranty information were key to narrowing the confidence gap.
Oliver Phillpott, CEO of Generational, said: “The used EV market is in need of more information for car-buyers. Customers are interested in electric vehicles, but they often need clearer answers around battery life, range, charging and cost before they feel ready to take the next step. For instance, something as simple as seeing how far you can actually get on 200 miles’ range, when viewed on a map, really helps break down confidence barriers.
“The Generational Logbook is designed to put those answers directly on the vehicle listing, where customers are spending time weighing up their options.”
The tool uses Generational’s vehicle-specific battery health check to give an accurate view of the battery’s original capacity, its current usable capacity and details of the remaining battery warranty. It also incorporates a real-world range estimation and range map, and a running cost calculator that adjusts according to a driver’s individual mileage and charging habits.
Used car supermarket Available Car is the first dealer to trial the EV Logbook. Its operations manager Steve Wiseman said: “Used EVs are still new territory for a lot of customers, so it’s understandable that people want a bit more information before they commit.
“For us, the value of Generational’s logbook is that it gives customers useful, vehicle-specific information at the point they are already browsing. It should help them understand what a particular EV might cost to run, how far it will go and what condition the battery is in. That can only help people feel more comfortable and better informed when they are deciding which used EV is right for them.”
