Geely is offering traditional automakers a way to leverage “China Speed.” The package includes modular platforms, AI-driven electric architectures, and efficient manufacturing systems. 800 engineers from the Chinese automaker are available to support this effort. The initiative aims to help other car brands shorten development cycles and reduce costs.
A newly established department at Geely is focused on collaborating with partners through customized end-to-end services, according to Automotive News. It leverages the development and production capabilities based in the People’s Republic of China. The goal, per the company founded in 1986, is to show others how automobile production can be carried out in a Chinese-style manner.
Geely’s “External Collaboration Research Institute” (ECRI), launched in 2021, is currently managing over 100 projects with about a dozen clients, including Renault and Waymo, per the report. A partnership with Ford was also agreed upon in July.
"We operate in one of the most competitive automobile markets in the world. This competition has strengthened our speed, efficiency, and cost discipline," said ECRI CEO Aileen Wang in an interview with Automotive News. Alongside the number of engineers, the quality of technology and efficiency are also key strengths of Geely.
The resources come from Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., one of the major automobile manufacturers. The company includes brands such as Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, Proton, Geely, Lynk & Co, and Zeekr. In 2025, the group sold 4.1 million vehicles, surpassing manufacturers like Honda and Nissan in doing so.
Regarding cooperation with other automakers, Wang emphasized the importance of cultural understanding. To ensure successful collaboration, the requirements of both parties must be clearly known. This also makes Geely more open, global, and inclusive.
