Geely revives the electric Panda Mini in a go-kart style: it costs 6,000 euros in China
Geely is trying to boost sales of the Panda Mini in China by introducing the new Karting Edition. This compact city car features some aesthetic upgrades and a 17.2 kWh LFP battery supplied by CATL. Thanks to a special promotion, the car is available at a competitive price of under 6,000 euros.
A more youthful redesign
The Geely Panda Mini entered the Chinese market in 2023 as a response to popular models there such as the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, Chery QQ Ice Cream, and Changan Lumin. It focuses on extremely compact dimensions and an affordable price, traits that have helped this small electric vehicle achieve 426,704 cumulative deliveries in the domestic market.
However, interest in it has gradually cooled down. In the first seven months of 2026, Geely saw a 77% decline compared to the same period the previous year. This led to the idea of reviving the model with a new version, making changes both to its design and its powertrain.
The name Karting Edition should not be misleading: it is not a true “kart-style” sports version. The front splitter and especially the prominent rear spoiler are primarily aesthetic elements designed to appeal to younger customers. But the Panda Mini has not become a high-performance vehicle—it retains a power output of 40 HP and a top speed of no more than 100 km/h.
New CATL Battery and Fast Charging
The most notable update is the adoption of a new 17.2 kWh LFP battery produced by CATL, replacing Gotion’s previous 17.03 kWh battery pack. Geely states that the battery has passed over 76 safety tests. Range has increased, reaching 210 km according to the Chinese CLTC cycle (approximately 172 km WLTP).
DC fast charging reaches 22 kW, with an estimated time of about 30 minutes to go from 30% to 80% charge. For a vehicle primarily designed for urban use, the combination of a relatively small battery and fast charging can reduce both time and costs.
Three Doors with Rear-Wheel Drive
The dimensions confirm the Panda Mini’s urban orientation: 3.15 meters in length, 1.54 meters in width, and 1.68 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.015 meters.
The vehicle is a three-door model with four seats and features a 69-liter trunk space. Inside, it includes a 9.2-inch LCD dashboard and an 8-inch central screen, along with a rear camera, rear parking sensors, and two front airbags.
The price remains its true strength
The price is definitely competitive. The listed price for the new Panda Mini Karting Edition starts at 49,900 yuan (around 6,400 euros), but thanks to a promotional launch, it temporarily drops to 43,900 yuan, equivalent to about 5,600 euros.
It’s clear that this price level is difficult to transfer directly to the European market: homologation, safety standards, mandatory equipment, distribution channels, and manufacturing costs would significantly affect the final price. Moreover, no European release of the Panda Mini Karting Edition has been indicated at present. Its interest for us is therefore primarily technological and industrial.
