Geely plans to launch the Monjaro EM-i with plug-in hybrid powertrain in Europe

The Chinese automaker Geely plans to introduce the Monjaro EM-i in Europe. The model targets the mid-size plug-in hybrid SUV segment. According to Automotive News, sales are set to begin in the United Kingdom early next year. The vehicle is expected to reach other European countries later as part of a global rollout.

The model’s name was inspired, according to the manufacturer, by Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. The SUV is based on Geely’s GEA Evo architecture. This platform supports both pure battery-electric drives and plug-in hybrids, as well as extended-range electric vehicles with an internal combustion engine acting as a power generator. Electric all-wheel drive is also available.

The Monjaro EM-i is set to be Geely’s first model in overseas markets equipped with an intelligent electric all-wheel drive system. The infotainment system uses Flyme, developed by the company alongside its smartphone subsidiary Meizu, along with artificial intelligence to create a cockpit that is designed to evolve continuously.

Geely positions the Monjaro EM-i as a flagship-level vehicle. A version of this SUV has been available in China and some overseas markets since 2021 on the CMA platform, offering gasoline and full hybrid powertrains. This serves as the foundation for its ongoing international expansion with a model targeting the mid-to-large SUV market segment.

The Geely brand began selling in Europe last year. It is part of the Geely Auto Group, which is under Zhejiang Geely Holding and includes not only the core brand but also the premium Zeekr brand and the Lynk & Co brand.
