The Geely EX5 has 246 horsepower and an 800V battery. The LiDAR is intended to reverse the decline in sales.
Geely unveiled the refreshed EX5 in China, where it is sold as the Galaxy E5, ahead of its scheduled launch on September 23, 2026. The electric crossover features a 245 kW powertrain, an 800 V electrical system, LiDAR, and a battery with a capacity of up to 70 kWh, but this upgrade also serves a very specific purpose: sales of the current generation have dropped by 45.9 percent.
The biggest changes are located under the floor and between the rear wheels. The RWD engine now generates 245 kW, equivalent to 329 horsepower, which is 114 horsepower more than before. Geely is also shifting to an 800 V architecture, which aims to reduce charging times at fast chargers. However, the manufacturer has not specified the charging power or the time required to recharge the battery. Without these details, “800 V” remains primarily a catchy label on the brochure.

The WLTP figures provided are not yet an European approval but a conversion from Chinese specifications. The CLTC cycle is significantly milder than WLTP, so the 635 km figure should be taken with caution. The current EX5 offers 430-475 km WLTP range, so a larger battery and new technology can indeed deliver noticeable improvements.
LiDAR, frunk, and more conventional handles
The body design wasn’t redrawn from scratch. The EX5 measures 4636 mm in length, 1920 mm in width, and 1670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2750 mm. This is 13 mm shorter than the Skoda Enyaq, though Geely aims more at a compact crossover rather than a full-fledged D-segment family SUV.
The car features a LiDAR, additional sensors in the front bumpers, sporty bumpers, and conventional door handles. The charging port remains in the left rear bumper, and the standard wheels are 19 inches in diameter. More interesting is the trunk with a capacity of 160 liters, an electrically opening lid, and a load limit of 50 kg. It’s perfect for storing cables, groceries, or a wet jacket.
Inside, we find a movable central screen, digital LCD clocks, a HUD, a wireless phone charger, a panoramic roof, and Flyme Sound audio system. Geely also added physical buttons on the central console. This is good, as controlling basic functions via a screen stopped being a sign of modernity years ago.
The G-Pilot H5 system is supposed to handle navigation with city and highway driving assistance. The LiDAR and sensor suite sound promising, but the availability of these features outside China will depend on local homologation and software.
Sales dropped by 45.9 percent.
From January to August 2026, Geely sold 40,776 units of the EX5/Galaxy E5, a 45.9 percent year-on-year decline. This isn’t a minor refresh for the lineup but rather a response to increasing competition in China.
There is no information yet on whether this version will reach Europe and Poland. If it does, we’ll get a much more powerful EX5 than the current one, but its value will be determined by price, charging speed, and actual range—not just the 800 V rating.
