Geely enters Switzerland with 2 BEVs and 1 plug-in hybrid SUV

Geely introduced the E5, E2, and Starray EM-i in Switzerland, covering both battery electric and plug-in hybrid segments.

Geely's exports more than tripled year-on-year in August, with overseas sales nearing 700,000 units in the first 8 months.

Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175) has entered the Swiss market, the latest step in the Chinese automaker's European expansion.

The company officially entered the local market with a brand and product launch event held in Zurich on September 16, according to a statement on Monday.

At the event, Geely introduced 3 models -- the Geely E5, Geely E2, and Starray EM-i -- covering different market segments.

The Geely E5 is a battery electric compact SUV (sport utility vehicle), the Geely E2 is a battery electric crossover, and the Starray EM-i is a mid-size plug-in hybrid SUV.

A test drive event was held alongside the launch, drawing more than 100 guests, including dealers, key account partners, and media representatives, it said.

Geely said Swiss consumers have demanding requirements for product quality, safety standards, and sustainable mobility, and that it will further expand its local product lineup going forward.

The move echoes Geely's recent strong momentum in overseas markets. In August, the company's overseas sales reached 110,094 units, up 205% year-on-year, marking the eighth consecutive month of triple-digit growth.

In the first 8 months of the year, Geely's cumulative overseas sales were 690,985 units, up 170% year-on-year. That compares with full-year exports of 420,097 units in 2025.

Overseas business has become the main engine of Geely's growth. Its overall sales in August were 270,194 units, up 8% year-on-year, and its cumulative sales in the first 8 months were 1,943,313 units, up just 2.4%.

NEVs (new energy vehicles) remain Geely's main sales driver. Its NEV sales in August were 175,877 units, up 19% year-on-year and accounting for 65% of its total sales.

In the first 8 months of the year, its cumulative NEV sales were 1,135,496 units, up 13% year-on-year.

The Geely EX5 EM-i has rolled off the assembly line at the Ayrton Senna plant and is set to launch in Brazil before year-end.
