The Geely E2, consistently the most popular car sold in China, is making its way to Europe. Behind the scenes, there’s a subtle name change: Geely EX2 -> Geely E2

Geely has opened registrations in Spain for the Geely E2, an electric B-segment hatchback. In China, this model regularly takes the lead from the Tesla Model Y in monthly rankings of the most popular cars overall, regardless of powertrain type. The Geely E2 appeals to buyers with its excellent quality-to-price ratio, costing as little as 61,800 yuan on promotional offers, which is equivalent to 34,700 Polish zlotys. Using the exchange rate applied by Chinese brand distributors, this would mean Geely E2 prices in Poland starting at 74,200 zlotys.

Chinese manufacturers do not place much emphasis on naming their car models, which is why the Geely E2 was sold as the Geely Galaxy Xingyuan (Polish for “Wish for Christmas”), later shortened to the more youthful Geely XingYuan, with the front grille labeled “Geome” as an abbreviation for the Geometry product line. It entered international markets as the Geely EX2, but now the company has shortened the name to Geely E2. Additionally, the X series lost the Geely EX5, which is now referred to as the Geely E5 on the manufacturer’s European websites. This is enough to present the older model as this year’s novelty

Geely E2: dimensions, battery capacity, price, and features

The Geely E2 is a B-segment hatchback with a length of 4.135 meters and a wheelbase of 2.65 meters (height: 1.57 m, width: 1.805 m). In China, it is available with LFP batteries having capacities of 30.12 (~29) or 40.16 (~39) kWh, paired with engines producing 58 kW/79 hp or 85 kW/116 hp respectively. The claimed range is 310 or 410 CLTC units, which is approximately 240 or 320 WLTP units. In urban or city-suburban driving conditions, this would equate to around 207 or 274 kilometers before the battery is fully depleted [based on preliminary calculations by Elektrowozu’s editorial team].

The car is standard equipped with LED daytime running lights and halogen headlights, 16-inch wheels, a 10.1- or 14.6-inch central display, 360-degree cameras, over-the-air updates, rear parking sensors, a mobile app with Bluetooth key fob functionality, automatic climate control, an audio system with 4 or 6 speakers, and V2L capability delivering up to 3.3 kW of power. More expensive options such as heated seats and a larger central screen are only available with a bigger battery. The Geely E2 has a trunk capacity of 375 liters, plus a front compartment that holds 70 liters [of liquid; source].

In Spain, the car is available for pre-order, with the distributor clearly researching the market, as the price of the Geely E2 is set to be announced “later.” For now, only a deposit of 500 euros, equivalent to 2,170 Polish zlotys, is required. Once someone makes this deposit, they can expect an additional discount of 500 euros on the car. Deliveries of the model are expected to begin in September, with unofficial reports suggesting that the manufacturer is considering assembling the vehicle in Europe.
