Geely enters Portugal with an affordable electric car, but that’s not all

Geely has the E2 as its “company star,” but it is entering Portugal with two more models and plans to launch many more in the future.
While the name Geely is still relatively unknown to many Portuguese, the group behind the brand is far from being a newcomer to the automotive industry.
Headquartered in Hangzhou, China, Geely Auto was founded in 1997 and currently manages brands such as Geely, Lynk & Co, and Zeekr. In 2025, the brands under Geely Auto Group sold over three million vehicles worldwide.
It is this group that is now officially entering Portugal through a partnership with Salvador Caetano, offering a lineup (for now) of three electric models: the compact E2, a 100% electric utility vehicle; the electric SUV E5; and the Starray EM-i, a plug-in hybrid SUV. But this is not the end of their expansion efforts.

Arrive, see, and win?
The partnership with Salvador Caetano is one of the key elements of Geely’s plan for Portugal. The network is set to exceed 15 dealers by the end of the year, with Salvador Caetano aiming for 1,000 units sold already in 2026.
"Portugal is an important market for Geely’s expansion in Europe," said Aiden He, executive director of Geely Brand Europe, adding that the partnership with Salvador Caetano allows combining Geely’s technological and industrial capabilities with local market knowledge.

Sérgio Ribeiro, Executive Administrator of Salvador Caetano Auto and Executive Director of International Automotive Distribution, believes that Geely’s arrival allows for the combination of “different electrification technologies with safety, equipment, and an affordable pricing strategy.”
The brand’s ambitions for Portugal don’t stop at the three models currently available. Its plans for 2027 include launching six electric, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid models, gradually expanding its range across various segments. Aiden He went even further: in Europe, the goal is to introduce 18 new cars over the next three years.
Among these new models will be a B-SUV available in electric, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid versions, as Razão Automóvel confirmed exclusively from the brand’s executive director. It will be a particularly important offering for the European market, where the small SUV segment continues to hold significant importance.
Geely’s range
While its range is still expanding, Geely has three models available in Portugal. The Geely E2 is the “star of the company.” Being the best-selling electric car in China, it arrives in Portugal as one of the most affordable options, with prices starting at 21,900 euros.
The range is divided into Pro, Max, and Ultra versions, each with two battery options. The Pro version comes equipped with a 35.35 kWh battery and a 60 kW (82 hp) motor, while the Max and Ultra versions feature a 47.14 kWh battery and an 85 kW (116 hp) motor. All versions deliver 150 Nm of torque and a top speed of 130 km/h.
The WLTP range varies from 252 km for the Pro version to 345 km for the Max and Ultra versions, reaching up to 368 km and 497 km respectively in urban driving conditions.
The other two models are already familiar to the public, having been showcased at the ECAR Show. The E5, which we have already driven, is the brand’s first electric SUV in Portugal.
The national lineup includes both Pro and Max versions, both equipped with a 60.22 kWh battery and a front-mounted electric motor producing 160 kW (218 hp). The range is 430 km for the Pro version and 410 km for the Max version, thanks to the 19″ wheels.
With a 5-year scheduled maintenance or 75,000 km coverage, along with an 8-year warranty or 200,000 km coverage for the vehicle and battery, the E5 starts at 28,990 euros (+ VAT).
In conclusion, the Starray EM-i is currently the only Geely vehicle with a combustion engine available in Portugal. It combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 99 horsepower with an electric motor delivering 218 horsepower, for a total combined power of 262 horsepower. The range is available in Pro, Max, and Max+ versions, with the first two using an 18 kWh LFP battery, while the Max+ model features a 30 kWh battery.

It is the Max+ version that offers the most impressive range figures. The larger battery allows for up to 136 km of combined WLTP electric range, or 184 km in urban driving conditions. When including the fuel tank capacity as well, the total combined range reaches 1055 km according to WLTP standards.
The Starray EM-i Pro costs 28,850 euros plus VAT, and it also comes with 5 years of
planned maintenance or 75,000 km, along with 8 years of warranty or 200,000 km for the vehicle and traction
battery.
