GAC showcases electric vans and trucks at IAA

The Chinese manufacturer GAC is making its exhibition debut at the IAA Transportation in Hannover through its subsidiary GAC Commercial Vehicle. On display are the electric truck T9 and the new Montx sub-brand for light commercial vehicles.

Under the theme “Delivering the Future Together,” GAC Commercial Vehicle makes its IAA debut, showcasing its technologies for light and heavy commercial vehicles in Pavilion 35 of the outdoor exhibition area. Along with partners such as Pony.ai and Aulton, the company presents solutions for Level 4 autonomous driving as well as rapid battery swapping.

This presence at the commercial vehicle exhibition marks an important milestone in the Chinese manufacturer’s international expansion. In addition to its vehicle lineup, GAC aims to expand its global partner ecosystem and leverage the resources of the GAC Group to enter new markets.

GAC Commercial Vehicle evolved from GAC Hino

The foundation for global expansion lies in business in the home market and the experience gained from the long-standing joint venture with Japanese commercial vehicle manufacturer Hino, which GAC acquired from the partnership two years ago. According to the company, in the first half of 2026, GAC Commercial Vehicle increased its sales by 205 percent compared to the same period last year. For international distribution, the company relies on GAC Group’s existing network in 110 countries and regions.

In the heavy commercial vehicle segment, GAC Commercial Vehicle’s focus at the IAA was on the electric truck T9. This is a tractor unit (6×4) that stands out due to its futuristic, angular “Cyberpunk” design featuring diamond-cut surfaces.

GAC presents two special configurations of this model: The T9 Robot Truck combines Pony.ai’s fourth-generation autonomous driving technology with GAC’s fully redundant drive-by-wire chassis. The automotive-grade sensors include nine LiDAR sensors, three radar sensors, and 13 cameras. Compared to the previous generation, hardware costs have dropped by 70 percent, while transportation costs per ton-kilometer in autonomous operation have fallen by about 30 percent. This is intended to improve efficiency in long-distance transportation, on fixed routes, and in port operations.

The second model shown is the T9 Battery Swap EV, an electric tractor unit equipped with a 603-kWh battery and a range of up to 475 kilometers. Thanks to Aulton’s system, the entire vehicle battery can be replaced in three to five minutes, thereby significantly reducing downtime on long-distance routes or fixed paths.

Montx is the new brand for light commercial vehicles

With the new brand Montx, GAC Commercial Vehicle is also expanding its offerings into the light commercial vehicle segment. At the exhibition, the concept vehicles P10 and V10 are on display, both based on the All-Domain Adaptive Architecture e (ADAA). This architecture enables flexible implementation of various drive types and vehicle designs for different international markets.

The market launch is accompanied by the Co-Creation Initiative Montx Makers, which allows users to contribute their requirements early in the development process. Another model for commercial use is the series version of the pickup Smilodon Pro, which is already available in Central and South America as well as the Middle East, with plans to make it available in around 30 countries by the end of 2026.
