GAC showcases electric vans and trucks at IAA
Chinese manufacturer GAC is celebrating its trade fair premiere at the IAA Transportation in Hanover with its subsidiary GAC Commercial Vehicle. On display are the electric truck T9 and the new sub-brand Montx for light commercial vehicles.

Under the motto “Delivering the Future Together”, GAC Commercial Vehicle is celebrating its IAA debut by presenting its technologies for light and heavy commercial vehicles in Pavilion 35 of the outdoor exhibition area. Alongside partners such as Pony.ai and Aulton, the company is showcasing solutions for Level 4 autonomous driving and rapid battery swapping.
The appearance at the commercial vehicle trade fair marks an important milestone in the international expansion of the Chinese manufacturer. Beyond its vehicle portfolio, GAC also aims to expand its global partner ecosystem and leverage the resources of the GAC Group to enter new markets.
GAC Commercial Vehicle emerged from GAC Hino
The foundation for this global expansion is its domestic market business and the experience gained from the long-standing joint venture GAC Hino with the Japanese commercial vehicle manufacturer Hino, which GAC acquired from the joint venture two years ago. In the first half of 2026, GAC Commercial Vehicle increased its sales by 205 per cent compared to the same period the previous year, according to company statements. For international distribution, the company relies on the existing network of the GAC Group, which spans 110 countries and regions.
In the heavy commercial vehicle segment, GAC Commercial Vehicle’s focus at IAA is on the electric truck T9. This is a 6×4 tractor unit that stands out due to its futuristic, angular ‘cyberpunk’ design with diamond-cut surfaces.
GAC is showcasing two special configurations of this model: The T9 Robotruck combines the fourth-generation autonomous driving technology from Pony.ai with GAC’s fully redundant drive-by-wire chassis. The automotive-grade sensor suite includes nine LiDAR sensors, three radar sensors, and 13 cameras. Compared to the previous generation, hardware costs are reduced by 70 per cent, and transport costs per tonne-kilometre in autonomous operation are cut by around 30 per cent. This is intended to improve efficiency in long-haul transport, on fixed routes, and in port operations.
The second variant on display is the T9 Battery Swap EV, an electric tractor unit with a 603-kWh battery and a range of up to 475 km. Using a system from Aulton, the entire vehicle battery can be swapped in three to five minutes, significantly reducing downtime in long-haul transport or on fixed routes.
Montx: a new light commercial vehicle brand
With the new Montx brand, GAC Commercial Vehicle is also expanding its portfolio to include light commercial vehicles. At the trade fair, the concept vehicles P10 and V10 are on display, based on the All-Domain Adaptive Architecture e (ADAA). This architecture enables the flexible implementation of different powertrains and vehicle forms for various international markets.
The market launch is accompanied by the Montx Makers co-creation initiative, which allows users to incorporate their requirements into the development process at an early stage. Another model for commercial use, the production version of the Smilodon Pro pick-up, is also being exhibited. This model is already available in Central and South America as well as the Middle East and is set to be offered in around 30 countries by the end of 2026.
