Foton brings battery and H2 trucks to IAA Transportation

Foton is announcing the international debut of the Cavan Beacon at IAA Transportation next week. It is a platform for heavy trucks equipped with low-emission and zero-emission propulsion systems. Based on this platform, Foton is already planning to introduce a 40-ton truck powered by batteries and hydrogen.
Foton was already present at this year’s IFAT in Munich with its eAumark among other products.
The Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer Foton is using the IAA Transportation 2026 (September 15–20) in Hannover to outline its further expansion in Europe. The focus of its booth presentation is on vehicles with battery-electric and hydrogen-powered drives, as well as the expansion of its sales, service, and spare parts supply networks. Against this backdrop, Foton emphasizes its strategy of not being merely an imported brand, but also establishing local structures through the introduction of new models.
Foton cites the international debut of its Cavan Beacon truck platform as one of the highlights of its booth at the exhibition. No details have been disclosed ahead of the IAA Transportation. However, the heavy vehicles based on this platform are said to feature intelligent design and alternative powertrains. BEV and FCEV variants have already been announced. In total, Foton will showcase “seven vehicles with new propulsion technologies as well as six self-developed core components” in Hannover, according to an official statement. The solutions on display are specifically aimed at players in Europe’s freight and logistics industry.
Independent of the Cavan-Beacon launch, Foton already has several of its light electric trucks and vans equipped with the approvals and certifications relevant for the European market, according to the company. Vehicles under its own New Energy brand, Cavan, are currently being introduced in 15 European countries as well as other international markets such as Australia and New Zealand, the company states.
Foton describes itself as a commercial vehicle manufacturer offering a wide range of products with various propulsion options. Based in Beijing, the company has been operating in international markets for over two decades and claims to have 32 local production sites worldwide, including in Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
Foton cites an established regional spare parts distribution center in Unna, North Rhine-Westphalia, as a key component of its European expansion. The center has already begun operations and is designed to provide faster supply of spare parts to European customers and service partners, according to Foton. The company operates 18 spare parts centers, 1,200 sales locations, and over 1,500 service points worldwide, it states.
It is clear that Foton holds great potential in the export market. Therefore, together with Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers, the company established a joint venture this spring aimed at providing additional transportation capacity for vehicle exports. The manufacturer backs up the growth of Foton’s international business with its own statistics: from January to August 2026, Foton exported around 149,000 vehicles, representing a 44.3 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
