The Chinese manufacturer Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor is introducing the updated Forthing 5 BEV to the German market. This all-electric compact SUV is available for ordering through IndiMO Automotive’s dealerships since October 23. The starting price is 40,995 euros, plus possible transfer and delivery costs. Forthing is part of the Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor car brand, which belongs to the Dongfeng Group.

The Forthing 5 BEV measures 4546 millimeters in length, 1860 millimeters in width, and 1,680 millimeters in height. The wheelbase is 2715 millimeters, with the trunk volume ranging from 410 to 1,420 liters when the rear seats are folded down. Compared to the previous Forthing 5 EV, the body design has been revised, particularly in the front section and lighting design. The electric motor now produces 200 kW (272 horsepower) instead of the previous 150 kW (204 horsepower), delivering a maximum torque of 360 Nm to the front wheels. The manufacturer specifies a top speed of 180 km/h, with no acceleration figures provided.

A key technical improvement relates to the battery and high-voltage system. While the previous Forthing 5 EV used a 400-volt architecture, the new Forthing 5 BEV employs 800-volt technology according to the manufacturer. The lithium iron phosphate battery (LFP) has a capacity of 75 kWh, which is smaller than the approximately 86 kWh battery pack in the predecessor model. Nevertheless, the claimed WLTP range increases from 371 to 501 kilometers. IndiMO states that the combined power consumption is 17.2 kWh per 100 kilometers.

The 800-volt architecture is particularly relevant for DC fast charging, as it enables higher charging speeds when properly designed. Reports on the revised model mention a DC charging capacity of up to 160 kW and a charging time of less than 18 minutes to reach 20 to 80 percent battery level. IndiMO’s official announcement for the German market confirms the 800-volt technology, but it does not provide specific details on the maximum charging capacity or charging time.

The features include electrically adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, as well as a panoramic roof with electric sunshade and a two-zone automatic climate control. The infotainment system is operated via a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Among the assistance systems are adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. Additionally, it features a 360-degree camera system and parking sensors on the front and rear axles.

The distribution in Germany is handled by IndiMO Automotive GmbH, based in Landstuhl, through a network of authorized dealers. In addition to vehicle import, the company is responsible for organizing service and spare parts supply. The Forthing 5 BEV comes with a three-year warranty without a mileage limit.
