Forthing 5 BEV: An electric SUV with 800 volts, a range of 501 km, and 200 kW charging capacity.

The Forthing 5 BEV is now available for ordering in Germany. If you’ve never heard of the Forthing brand, you’re not alone—this is a car brand from China’s Dongfeng Group. This 4.55-meter-long electric SUV boasts a fairly high WLTP range of 501 km and an 800-volt system. It’s now available in Germany through importer IndiMO for 40,995 euros.
The new model is already listed on IndiMO’s website, where details are also available. With a length of 4,546 mm and a wheelbase of 2,715 mm, the Forthing 5 BEV is a compact SUV with dimensions similar to those of the Jeep Compass Elektro.

The front design is characterized by slit-shaped daytime running lights at the top and headlights below; there appear to be some kind of ribs beneath the headlights that are likely also illuminated. The rear is designed in a more conventional style with its continuous light strip and roof spoiler.

There is a keyless access system for unlocking. Inside, there is an instrument display and a 15.6-inch touchscreen. The system is activated with a button press. The trunk has a capacity of 410 to 1,420 liters.
The Forthing 5 BEV always comes with a 200-kW front-wheel drive system; IndiMO has not yet specified the acceleration time, but the top speed is 180 km/h. The power comes from an LFP battery with a storage capacity of 75 kWh. It is not yet known whether this is the gross or net capacity, but the difference for LFP batteries is often not significant. This enables the vehicle to achieve a WLTP range of 501 kilometers.

The traction battery features liquid cooling and heating, along with a separate battery heater. The latter indicates an electric heating system (PTC heater). Regeneration can be adjusted across three levels: None, Comfort, and Strong. For DC fast charging, the Forthing 5 BEV uses 800-volt technology—according to the manufacturer, as explicitly stated by IndiMO here. No information is available yet regarding charging power or charging time.

The standard equipment is very comprehensive. It includes LED lights with a light sensor and high-beam assist, 19-inch wheels, electrically adjustable, heated, and folding exterior mirrors, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, heating, ventilation, and massage functions. An electrically operated sliding glass roof with an electric sunshade allows light and air to enter the cabin as standard. The seats are covered in black synthetic leather.
A two-zone automatic climate control, wireless smartphone charging at 50 watts, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard. The assistance systems include a cruise control with distance regulation, a lane-keeping assist, and a blind spot warning. For parking, there is a 360-degree view system, a rearview camera, and parking sensors at the front and back.
The prices start at 40,995 euros including VAT. Customers can choose from five exterior paint colors: white, gray, black, as well as green and purple.
According to the website, IndiMO offers a total of seven Chinese brands, including BAIC, Forthing, and Dongfeng, with two diesel pickups. The Forthing models listed range from pure electric vehicles to range-extender models, plug-in hybrids, hybrids, and diesel engines. Surprisingly, there is also a Forthing 5 EV (without the “B”), which is also a battery-electric vehicle. It has a similar appearance but only 150 kW of power. The battery capacity is listed as 86 kWh, but the range is only 371 km, which seems inconsistent.
With the Forthing 5 BEV, IndiMO plans to further expand its electric vehicle lineup in Germany to meet rising demand. The importer targets customers who prioritize comfort and advanced features. Sales are conducted exclusively through an expanding network of authorized dealers, with local support available for consultation and service. Indimo Automotive GmbH is an independent vehicle importer headquartered in Landstuhl (Pfalz) with additional offices across the country.

In summary
Another new brand in Germany: Forthing is part of the Dongfeng Group, one of China’s largest automakers. Dongfeng offers both passenger cars and commercial vehicles, many of which appear to come equipped with various types of powertrains.
The currently available data on the Forthing 5 BEV seem promising at first glance. The 800-volt system is particularly notable, but charging data is still missing. Not all 800-volt systems ensure fast charging, as shown by the Leapmotor C10. Additionally, the sprint performance figure is still absent. With such incomplete information, we would be cautious when purchasing it, even though the price is low and the specifications are excellent. For comparison, the Jeep Compass with 157 kW of power and a range of up to 500 km starts at 47,900 euros.
