The range of electric SUVs continues to grow in Europe, and not all new models come from the most well-known Chinese brands. Forthing, which made its debut at the Paris Motor Show, aims to establish itself with a competitively priced lineup.

The brand belongs to Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor, part of the Dongfeng Group, and has started accepting orders for the revamped Forthing 5 electric vehicle, beginning in Germany.

The Forthing 5 is a compact SUV with a length of 4.55 meters, width of 1.86 meters, and height of 1.68 meters, while the wheelbase measures 2.72 meters. The trunk offers 410 liters of space, which can be expanded to 1,420 liters by folding down the rear seats.

Inside, the manufacturer aims to offer a substantial amount of equipment from the start. The front seats come with electric adjustment, heating, ventilation, and massage functions for both the driver and passenger. This is complemented by a panoramic roof with an electric sunshade and dual-zone automatic climate control, features designed to enhance comfort on board.

The multimedia system features a 15.6-inch central screen that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Driving assistance features include adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. For parking, it has 360-degree cameras along with front and rear sensors, a useful set of features for a car of this size.

The electric motor, located at the front axle, delivers 200 kW (272 HP) and 360 Nm of torque, enabling a top speed limited to 180 km/h.

The battery is a 75 kWh LFP pack, offering an approved WLTP range of 501 kilometers. The announced combined energy consumption is 17.2 kWh/100 km, indicating that this model is somewhat inefficient.

According to the distributor, it can reach a peak of 160 kW in DC and charge from 20% to 80% in less than 18 minutes. Thus, this is a model without an extremely high charging peak, but with a very good charge curve.

The importer in Germany offers a three-year warranty with no mileage limit, a factor that should be considered alongside the coverage of technical support.

As for the price, the Forthing 5 electric model starts at 40,995 euros in Germany, before delivery or transportation costs, which typically add one to two thousand euros to the final price. Still, and without knowing all its details, this is a fairly competitive price. Orders have been open since October 23, and there is currently no confirmation on when it will arrive in Spain.
