Fiat Grande Panda electric: it now has 400 km of range while staying affordably priced

To our surprise, the Fiat Grande Panda expands its lineup with a larger battery that enables it to achieve nearly 400 km of range.

Fiat has returned to the compact multi-purpose vehicle market (segment B) with the Grande Panda, available in gasoline, mild hybrid, and fully electric versions. The electric version features a 43.8 kWh LFP battery, providing up to 327 km of WLTP combined range.

For months, we expected a cheaper variant with a smaller battery, similar to the Citroën ë-C3 which serves as the technical basis for the Grande Panda. But surprisingly, the opposite is true! This Italian model is actually available with a larger battery!

This is a 52.8 kWh LFP battery (net capacity), the same type used in SUVs sharing the same platform (Smart Car), such as the Citroën ë-C3 Aircross. As a result, the Grande Panda naturally gains in range; according to Fiat’s configurator, it can reach up to 400 km under the WLTP mixed cycle. This puts it on par with other city cars that exceed 400 km of range, like the Renault 5 or Volkswagen ID.Polo.

While the Panda performs slightly less well, it retains the advantage of being more affordable. Its base price with this battery is 25,900 €, whereas the R5 with a 52 kWh (net capacity) battery starts at 31,990 €, though it comes with more comprehensive and advanced features (heat pump, two-way charging, etc.).

At 25,900 euros (excluding subsidies), the Grande Panda Pop comes standard with air conditioning, rearview cameras, and digital instrumentation. However, it lacks a touchscreen; this is available on the Icon version for 27,800 euros. The top-of-the-line La Prima costs 30,800 euros. Compared to the smaller battery version, which is still available, the price difference is 2,000 euros, offering an additional range of 70/80 kilometers.

It features a 100 kW DC charging option and the same 83 kW (113 hp) engine. Note that there is a 1,500 euro discount, and the vehicle qualifies for a CEE subsidy ranging from 3,650 to 7,000 euros. Thus, the Grande Panda can be a good choice for those seeking good range at a reasonable price.

Citroën has not yet announced an ë-C3 model with a larger battery.
