FAW-Volkswagen introduces the electric limousine Jetta M6

FAW-Volkswagen’s Jetta brand has launched pre-sales in China for its electric limousine, the M6. First announced in mid-summer, this model is Jetta’s first all-electric vehicle and is set to officially hit the market in China in mid-October.

The Chinese joint venture aims to attract price-sensitive buyers with the new sub-brand Jetta. Volkswagen and FAW launched this new brand at the beginning of the year. The full name of the corresponding subsidiary is FAW Volkswagen Jetta Automotive Technology Co Ltd. However, Jetta is not designed as a purely electric brand: a total of five models are planned by 2028, four of which will be NEVs. At least one model will therefore have a combustion engine, and even among the New Energy Vehicles, plug-in hybrids or range-extender vehicles are possible.
The now market-ready M6 is a pure electric vehicle. As an electric sedan with a modern, minimalist design, it aims to compete in the mid-size segment. The prices now disclosed range from 80,800 to 99,800 yuan, which is equivalent to between 10,600 and 13,100 euros. The official market launch is scheduled for mid-October.
According to Chinese industry websites, the M6 is based on the company’s own “Jiesi” architecture and features only front-wheel drive with peak power outputs of either 113 or 145 kW. Its dimensions are listed as 4.81 x 1.90 x 1.50 meters, with a wheelbase of 2.82 meters. The sedan will be available in three variants: 465 Pro, 555 Max, and 555 Ultra, with the numbers in the model names indicating range according to Chinese testing standards. The battery cells, not yet specified in detail, come from supplier CALB.
The mandatory registration application in China also reveals that, depending on the engine configuration, the top speed is set at 166 or 172 km/h, with the M&’s curb weight ranging from 1,557 to 1,628 kilograms. Additionally, it was reported in July that although the battery cells come from CALB, the finished battery packs are assembled directly by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture.
It is clear that by setting prices below the 100,000 yuan mark, Jetta is deliberately targeting China’s entry-level electric vehicle market. In the medium term, the new subbrand aims to produce and sell roughly 400,000 to 500,000 vehicles per year, according to the CN EV Post website. Jetta emphasized that many of these will be electric vehicles by presenting its Jetta X concept at the Beijing Auto Show in April.
