These are the 10 best-selling trams in Europe as of September

The podium was dominated by Tesla, but there is a model from another brand that managed to make its way among the best-selling electric vehicles.
Driven by rising fuel prices, Europe’s electric vehicle market continued to grow in 2026. From January to September, 2.54 million units were sold, representing a 41.6% increase compared to the same period last year.
With 167,369 units registered from January to September, the Tesla Model Y was the best-selling car in Europe during this period in absolute terms. As a result, it is naturally also the best-selling electric vehicle, with a 51.8% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
In second place is the Skoda Elroq, with 89,268 units sold, representing a 50.7% increase from the previous year’s period. The Czech SUV was only 650 units behind the Tesla Model 3, which finished third with 88,618 units registered, showing a 41.1% increase.
Despite the close gap between the second and third placed vehicles, the distance from the leader is significant: the Model Y sold 78,101 more units than the Elroq.

The Renault 5 E-Tech ranks fourth with 68,937 units, representing a 37.1% increase from last year. Followed by the Skoda Enyaq, with 61,306 units registered and a 28.9% growth.
Volkswagen’s ID. family, which once had models among the top three best-selling electric vehicles, is now losing ground.
Since the beginning of the year, only the ID.4 has seen an increase in registrations, at 4%, a growth rate far below that of the market. The ID.3 and ID.7 were the only models in the Top 10 to experience sales declines, at 2.2% and 13.4%, respectively. The ID.7’s decline was actually the most significant among the ten best-selling models.

Despite this decline, the Volkswagen Group has the most representatives on the Top 10 list, with three models from Volkswagen and two from Skoda.
Contrary to Volkswagen’s electric vehicles, the Mercedes-Benz CLA was the model that saw the highest percentage growth among the top ten best-selling electric cars. Registrations rose from 4,913 units in the first nine months of 2025 to 52,108 units in the same period this year, an increase of 960.6%.

What about September?
September brought some changes compared to the cumulative rankings since the start of the year. The Tesla Model Y took back the lead with 40,971 units registered, representing a 55.3% increase from the same month in 2025. The Tesla Model 3 came in second place, with 25,057 registrations, showing a 105.7% growth.
The Skoda Elroq dropped to third place with 12,129 units, still up by 18.5% from last September. The gap between it and the two Tesla models was significant: the Model Y had more than three times as many registrations as the Czech SUV.
