The Chinese company Ananda is developing new products at a rapid pace: you might recall another company from the same country about which we knew almost nothing just over a year ago...

They have recently launched a rear hub motor ideal for urban bicycles, especially for shared mobility fleets found in major cities: it’s called the R525 and comes equipped with a sophisticated anti-theft system.

Ananda R525: When safety (and reliability) matter most

As we mentioned, Ananda’s R525 is aimed at shared electric bikes, though it’s equally suitable for any urban bike. Ananda aims to provide absolute reliability under tough conditions, especially in fleet operations and demanding urban environments. For example, it features a reinforced motor architecture that ensures highly dependable performance.

On the other hand, it comes with an integrated anti-theft protection system: a patented anti-lock security technology that includes an integrated motor lock, allowing riders to park the bike with complete peace of mind anywhere. The R525 motor has an internal locking mechanism that can be set to activate automatically when the electric bike is turned off and deactivate when it’s started up.

This safety mechanism is a type of internal latch (completely mechanical though operated electronically) that literally locks the motor. There is a safety system or mechanism that prevents this latch from activating while the bike is in motion, even if the system detects some error.

The mechanism communicates via the CANbus protocol, allowing for perfect integration with modern connected electric bike architectures.

Performance: at a sufficient level

Although this engine is not designed to break acceleration records, sufficient power has been allocated to it: it can handle a maximum torque of 50 Nm, though it can be configured starting from 42 Nm. Despite all its components, its weight remains low at 4.2 kg. Its operation is also extremely quiet, emitting less than 55 dB.

In summary, this adds further momentum to the urban electric bike sector, in this case specifically shared-use bikes: at least in our country, the near future of urban mobility seems to lie in using this type of bikes. For more information: Ananda R525
