E.ON and BYD launch a joint charging service

E.ON and BYD have launched their first joint charging service in Germany. Drivers of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids from the Chinese brand receive a bonus of twelve cents per kilowatt hour for smart charging at home.

The new offer “E.ON Home Charge” is now available for ordering and is aimed at both new and existing BYD customers. It can be used with all of the manufacturer’s all-electric models and plug-in hybrids. Those who take advantage of this offer receive a charging bonus of twelve cents per kilowatt hour charged at home intelligently, valid for at least 24 months.

Based on a assumed charging volume of 170 kilowatt hours per month, E.ON states that this results in an average savings of around 20 euros per month. Over two years, this amounts to approximately 490 euros. The requirement is that charging must be done through the intelligent control system and that the relevant tariff conditions are met.

The control is handled by the Mein E.ON app. There, users set the desired departure time and the required battery charge level by then. In smart mode, the charging process is then automatically controlled. If needed, it’s possible to switch to “Immediate Charging” at any time.

E.ON and BYD plan further energy solutions

Upon market launch, BYD drivers will also receive a one-time bonus of 80 euros if they sign up for a corresponding E.ON electricity plan and are new customers of the energy provider. This amount adds to a regular E.ON new customer bonus, the amount of which is not specified in the announcement.

The two companies announced their strategic partnership back in September. At that time, only an offer for fully electric BYD models was mentioned. With the current market launch, the brand’s plug-in hybrids are also included.

In the long term, E.ON and BYD aim to expand their cooperation to other European markets and better integrate electric vehicles with energy solutions for households. This includes vehicle-to-grid charging, which allows electric cars to feed electricity back into the grid as flexible storage.

It is not yet known when such functions will be available or which BYD models they might support.
