Energy company E.On and Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD have launched their first joint customer offer in Germany. The product package now available combines all of BYD’s all-electric and plug-in hybrid models with the “E.On Home Charge” charging service. It is aimed at both buyers and leasing customers, as well as those who already own a corresponding BYD vehicle. Customers can take advantage of smart home charging when ordering a vehicle.
With “E.On Home Charge,” users receive a charging bonus of twelve cents per kilowatt hour charged smartly at home for at least 24 months. With an average charging volume of 170 kilowatt hours per month, this is said to result in savings of around 20 euros. Additionally, BYD drivers who sign up for the corresponding E.On electricity plan receive a one-time bonus of 80 euros as an E.On new customer, along with another new customer bonus.
The charging process is controlled through the Mein E.On app. There, users set their desired departure time and the battery charge level the vehicle should reach by then. In smart mode, the charging process is automatically managed, with each kilowatt hour charged this way counted toward the bonus. Using the “Immediate Charging” function, customers can switch to direct charging at any time.
Both companies aim to expand their strategic partnership in the future through additional joint offerings. They also plan to better integrate electric vehicles with home energy solutions and increasingly incorporate them into an integrated energy ecosystem. Looking ahead, this includes vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging, which allows electric vehicles to function as flexible storage units within the energy system.
"After the test drive, many customers quickly ask very practical questions: How do I charge at home, and how much will it cost me per month? We now have a clear answer to this, in collaboration with E.On, right at the point of purchase. With one’s own home charging station, it’s easy to see what smart charging means in everyday use, whether it’s a fully electric BYD or a super hybrid. This is the first step in our partnership; more will follow," said Lars Bialkowski, Country Manager for BYD Germany.
