E.ON acquires Smatriscs Italia, with 64 charging stations

E.ON has acquired Smatriscs Italia, which operates 64 charging stations at 4 high-capacity stations located in the northeast of the country. With increasingly ambitious plans, it is hoped that the growth of these key players will bring greater price competition to Italy.

E.ON Acquires Smatriscs Italia, With 4 Major Hubs in the Northeast

There has long been talk of an inevitable consolidation process in this sector, with several major players playing a leading role in Europe. Now comes the acquisition by E.ON Drive Infrastructure Italy, which has taken over 100% of SMATRICS EnBW Italia. The charging hubs acquired are:

Brixen-Vahrn (Tyrol), along the Brenner Corridor, with 20 Ultra-Fast charging stations;

Palmanova (Udine), along the Alpine-Adriatic Corridor, with 12 Ultra-Fast charging stations;

Gruaro (Venice), strategically located between highways A28 and A4, with 16 Ultra-Fast charging stations;

Trezzo sull’Adda (Milan), along highway A4 and serving the Milan metropolitan area, with 16 Ultra-Fast charging stations.

"An HPC network in the most important traffic corridors"

E.On buys Smatrics Italia

Through this acquisition, E.ON adds four existing High Power Charging (HPC) hubs to its portfolio. Strategically located along the TEN-T Scandinavia-Mediterranean and Mediterranean corridors, two of Europe’s most important transport routes, these hubs enhance E.ON’s presence in key traffic areas. “Buying SMATRICS EnBW Italia is a strategic move for E.ON Drive Infrastructure Italy’s growth strategy. By integrating these hubs into our network, we strengthen our presence along Europe’s major traffic corridors and further expand a network designed to make high-power charging increasingly accessible and reliable across Europe,” explained Michele De Gaspari, Regional Director Southern Europe at E.ON Drive Infrastructure. Meanwhile, rumors continue about other potential mergers being considered among other operators.
