EnBW is investing in 480-kW fast charging stations across its nationwide network

EnBW is rolling out a new generation of high-power chargers (HPC) across its nationwide fast-charging network. At the reference site located at the company’s headquarters in Karlsruhe, the energy provider officially adds XCharge’s C7 fast-charging station to its portfolio. These systems offer a charging capacity of 480 kilowatts and are designed for future generations of electric vehicles that can handle higher charging speeds.

According to EnBW, it already operates more than 9,000 fast charging stations in Germany and is expanding its network in long-distance areas, urban regions, and retail locations. The new 480-kW technology is intended for use primarily at sites where customers stay only briefly and want to charge to maximize range. As an example, Lars Jacobs, Chief Commercial Officer and acting Technical Director of the electric mobility division, cites EnBW’s charging parks along German highways.

Depending on the vehicle, the new technology is said to enable charging to a range of up to 640 kilometers within 20 minutes. Customers are also expected to benefit from higher performance during so-called powersharing, where two vehicles charge simultaneously at a single station. The charging time could be reduced depending on the capacity of the electric vehicles.

By the end of 2026, EnBW plans to connect another two-digit number of fast charging stations equipped with the new 480-kW technology across Germany. As early as February 2026, the energy company and XCharge announced a long-term partnership, based on field tests with XCharge charging stations that proved reliable, efficient, and safe after tens of thousands of charging sessions.

"Electric mobility will continue to develop dynamically in the coming years. That’s why we are not only expanding our fast-charging network quantitatively but also investing specifically in new charging technologies that meet our high standards as well as those of our customers," said Jacobs. "With XCharge’s new 480-kW charging systems, electric vehicle users at the EnBW charging network benefit from short charging times, advanced technology, and high reliability."
