In January 2027, another of the world’s leading manufacturers of electric bikes will launch one equipped with the powerful Avinox motor.

Merida is the world’s second-largest bicycle manufacturer, behind Giant, which gives a clear idea of the importance Avinox attaches to its upcoming eMtb model, named ILIAC, being equipped with one of its engines.

Not much information has been released about this news, as Merida itself only posted a announcement on its social media showing a vague glimpse of the bike, its name, and that the engine is from Avinox—nothing more.

ILIAC will be an enduro bike

It’s the trend: the enduro category has been one of the most active within the electric mountain bike sector. And since it’s the most popular, what could be better than equipping it with the most sought-after engine? Avinox is the brand, and we assume the chosen version will be the M2S, although, as some brands do, we might see the M2 in entry-level models.

From what’s visible, its design resembles the latest eMtb released, the LITHOS, which features Bosch Performance Line CX and CX-R engines along with long suspension travel (recall that this model has 170 mm in the front and 174 mm at the back). However, based on what’s apparent, it seems the wheelset is 29'' rather than mullet. But we’re not 100% sure.

Another point we’re not convinced about based on the photos is whether the battery is removable or not: judging from the shape of the diagonal tube, it seems it isn’t (it is on the LITHOS). If the battery isn’t removable, there are two possibilities within Avinox: either it comes with the standard FS800 (800 Wh) or the more compact FP700 (700 Wh). If it were removable, the most likely option would be the new RS800 (800 Wh).

If the FS800 is installed, the Avinox M2S motor can deliver up to 1,300 W (and 150 Nm). However, with the FP700 or RS800 installed, the power output reaches 1,500 W. What’s common is the wide range of customization options for Avinox motors available through the brand’s app.

In short, we will learn more about this new frame entering the Avinox lineup in January: it seems that if a brand wants to stay at the top, it needs to have some bikes equipped with engines from the popular Chinese manufacturer.
