Electric vehicles still at 41% in France, with Twingo leading

Electric vehicles still account for 41% in France, with the Renault Twingo leading in sales, while the Tesla Model Y drops to 8th place, losing its top position.
Electric vehicles still at 41%: Renault’s dominance, Tesla falling behind

While waiting for the Italian data, which is expected later in the afternoon, it’s interesting to see what’s happening in France. There was strong curiosity to find out if the impressive 41% market share recorded in September was just a fleeting trend. But no — it remained at 41.5% in October, with over 62,000 EVs sold, representing an 81.7% increase compared to the same month in 2025. Both gasoline and hybrid cars are losing ground, while diesel vehicles now hold only a minimal share. However, the ranking of electric vehicles differs significantly from September: the Tesla Model Y dropped to 8th place, while Renault took the top two spots. The new Twingo leads the way, with 4,747 units registered, bringing it close to the 5,000 mark. In second place is the R5 with 4,666 units. Tesla’s SUV still leads the rankings for the first 9 months of the year, with 39,588 units sold compared to 36,664 for the Renault 5.
Eight French models among the top 10 best sellers

Renault extends its success by having two more models in the Top Ten: the Scenic is fourth with 3,037 units, while the R4 is seventh with 1,786 units. Stellantis also performs well with its two brands: the Peugeot e-208 is in third place with 3,221 registrations, and the Citroen eC3 is fifth with 2,376 units. In total, eight models from French brands are in the Top Ten, demonstrating how much buyers in France value products made in France. The only two outsiders are the Tesla Model Y and the Kia EV2 (pictured above), which is ninth with 1,506 units sold—a promising figure for a new model. The Fiat 500e is far behind, ranking at 389 units. The coming months will show the impact of VolkswagenGroup’s new models, including the ID.Polo, Skoda Epiq, and Cupra Raval in the small car segment. But it won’t be easy to challenge the French at home.
