It could be due to the incentives still in effect, or perhaps the exorbitant cost of gasoline and diesel... The fact remains that Germany is also setting new records, with nearly 69,000 electric cars registered in August. This represents a year-on-year increase of 75.1%. With Tesla’s dominance over, the top ten best-selling EVs are all models from German automakers, with the exception of the Citroen e-C3 in 10th place. At the top remains the Skoda Enyaq, the only model to exceed 3,000 units sold. Followed by the surprising BMW iX1 (2,449 units) and the Volkswagen ID.7-ID.4 pair, with 2,236 and 2,189 units respectively. Tesla, which tends to concentrate its deliveries toward the end of the quarter, finishes in 12th and 15th place with the Model 3 (1,605 units) and Model Y (1,426 units). The 500e, the top Italian model, is only in 30th place with 752 units sold.

Diesel holds strong at 10%, plug-in hybrids at 12%

Unlike France, Germany has not seen a collapse in diesel sales. Diesel vehicles originated here and still account for 10.6% of sales, compared to 2% in France. Plug-in hybrids, on the other hand, make up just over a third of electric vehicles, with 25,406 registrations. What remains to be seen is what the federal government will do regarding state incentives. A significant portion of the auto lobby is pushing for their elimination. Yet prospects for electric vehicles in 2027 remain positive, especially with the highly anticipated lineup of compact models from the Volkswagen Group set to hit the market. In fact, the first model has already arrived in the form of the Cupra Raval, which immediately entered the rankings at 11th place with 1,663 units sold. It’s clear, however, that the most significant impact may come from the cheaper Skoda Epiq and VW ID. Polo, the latter available in a 24-horsepower version.
