Elephants make short work of charging station

Occasional vandalism of charging stations is nothing new, but one Chinese charge point operator likely wasn't expecting an elephant to be the culprit when one of its charging towers was knocked over late one night.

The destruction was captured on film in a car park in China: as a herd of elephants moved through the charging park installed there, a young elephant became tangled in a cable. An adult elephant helped free the calf and then seemingly addressed the root of the problem directly. One of the charging stations was promptly knocked over. Whether it survived the encounter remains unknown. The video of the night-time incident has since gone viral online.

There was certainly no lack of decisiveness: the youngster was rescued, the hazard identified, and the charging station felled. While discussions continue about cable management, trip hazards, and the right kind of protective bollards abound elsewhere, the herd found its own solution. It may not have been particularly delicate, but it was remarkably effective.
