Fang Cheng Bao (FCB), BYD’s youngest brand focused so far on SUVs, has just taken a dramatic turn. The company has officially launched its first electric sedans, the Formula S and Formula S GT, two models that mark its entry into an extremely competitive segment where it will face strong rivals such as the Xiaomi SU7 and Tesla Model 3. FCB is already available in Europe, though its first product is sold under the group’s premium brand: the Denza Bao 5.

The move makes sense within the BYD group: since Fang Cheng Bao had already demonstrated its off-road capabilities, what was needed was a direct response in the segment of urban sports sedans, one of the most competitive and highest-selling segments in China’s electric vehicle market. The design of both models draws directly from the Formula X, the brand’s flagship supercar, giving a clear indication of the direction this new range is heading.

Two body styles, one goal

FCB Formula S

The range is divided into two distinctly different body styles. The Formula S is designed as a coupe, with prices ranging from 189,900 yuan, approximately 24,687 euros at the current exchange rate, to 229,900 yuan, around 29,887 euros. The Formula S GT, on the other hand, features a shooting brake body style, similar to a sports family car, with prices between 219,900 yuan, about 28,587 euros, and 239,900 yuan, roughly 31,187 euros.

In mechanical terms, the rear-wheel-drive versions offer power outputs of 245 kW, around 333 horsepower, or 300 kW, approximately 408 horsepower, depending on the variant. The all-wheel-drive versions deliver up to 490 kW combined, roughly 666 horsepower. The entire range is built on a high-performance architecture compatible with Flash Charging, capable of charging the battery from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes and from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes—figures that place these models among the fastest to charge in today’s Chinese market.

Carefully designed aerodynamics and coupe-like dimensions

FCB Formula S Interior

The Formula S measures 5,060 mm in length, 1,967 mm in width, and 1,483 mm in height, while the Formula S GT is slightly more compact, with 5,025 mm in length, 1,967 mm in width, and 1,458 mm in height. Both share a wheelbase of 2,960 mm. The aerodynamic coefficient of the Formula S is 0.22, whereas that of the GT rises slightly to 0.25, a logical difference given its more practical body design focused on carrying load.

Inside the cabin, both models feature a 26-inch augmented reality Head-Up Display, a Devialet sound system, and zero-gravity seats. The cabin also offers an open ecosystem with modular hardware interfaces, including PIN, magnetic, and threaded types, allowing users to customize their driving position with accessories such as magnetic ambient lights, physical shortcut buttons, and even karaoke equipment.

Adaptive driving assistance with built-in laser radar

Both models feature the intelligent driving system “God’s Eye B” along with laser radar (LiDAR), enabling them to provide assisted navigation in both highways and urban areas. With this launch, Fang Cheng Bao completes its transformation from a brand specializing in SUVs to a manufacturer active in the electric sports sedan segment, thereby expanding the range of options that BYD offers to compete directly with Xiaomi and Tesla in China.
