The most powerful Škoda Peaq is here: 299 horsepower, all-wheel drive, and 613 km of range
The Škoda Peaq has just expanded its lineup with a version that long been requested by fans of the model’s design. The largest and most spacious electric SUV from the Czech brand is now available with all-wheel drive, higher power output, and improved towing capacity. It’s called the Peaq 90X and serves as the new top-of-the-line model.
Until now, the Škoda Peaq was available in two mechanical configurations, both with rear-wheel drive. The Peaq 60 uses a 59 kWh usable battery and an electric motor of 150 kW (204 hp), while the Peaq 90 features a 86 kWh net battery and a motor of 210 kW (286 hp). Now the Peaq 90X arrives, retaining the large battery but adding a second electric motor on the front axle.
The new Peaq 90X retains the exterior design of its predecessor, inspired by Škoda’s Modern Solid design language. With a length of 4.87 meters and a wheelbase of nearly three meters, it is a large SUV clearly designed for families that need real space. It also maintains seven seating positions and a trunk capacity of up to 935 liters when the five-seater configuration is used.
In terms of equipment, the Peaq offers a combination of technology and comfort that is particularly appealing for long trips. It features elements such as matrix LED headlights, a panoramic roof with dynamic lighting control, flush door handles, and a Sonos sound system with 16 speakers and 755 watts of power. There is also a comfort package including reclining seats, massage functions, and footrests, while the front trunk adds an additional 37 liters of storage space.
The major innovation lies under the chassis. The Peaq 90X combines a permanent magnet synchronous motor in the rear axle with another asynchronous motor in the front axle, resulting in a combined power of 220 kW, equivalent to 299 horsepower, and a maximum torque of 545 Nm. This is 10 kW more than the rear-wheel-drive Peaq 90, though the key difference lies in the ability to distribute power between the two axles.
This is also reflected in performance. The Škoda Peaq 90X can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, compared to 7.1 seconds for the Peaq 90. The top speed remains at 180 km/h. While this isn’t a SUV designed for circuit times, it is a large family car that already offers more than sufficient performance even when loaded.
The battery is the same 86 kWh net capacity used in the Peaq 90. Adding a second motor results in a slight reduction in range, which is inevitable when comparing the two versions. The Peaq 90X achieves up to 613 kilometers of WLTP range, while the rear-wheel-drive Peaq 90 reaches 647 kilometers. In the case of the Sportline, equipped with larger wheels, the range is around 605 kilometers.
In exchange for that slight loss of autonomy, the 90X gains a particularly interesting feature for those looking for a family car of this size: it can tow up to 2,000 kilograms. The Peaq 60 and 90 models are limited to 1,800 kilograms with a braked trailer, so the new all-wheel-drive version significantly expands its capabilities for hauling a caravan, trailer, or any other type of load.
Regarding fast charging, the Peaq reaches a peak power of 200 kW, allowing it to go from 20% to 80% in 29 minutes. It can also charge at 11 kW AC, requiring 9 hours and 15 minutes to reach 100% charge.
The range of the new Škoda Peaq 90X starts with the Business Edition trim, while the Sportline version is positioned above it, featuring a more sporty orientation and larger wheels. In the Netherlands, where Škoda has just announced its launch, the Peaq 90X Business Edition costs 57,990 euros, whereas the Sportline version is priced at 62,990 euros. The first units will arrive at Dutch dealerships in mid-January.
With this addition, the Peaq is now in a much better position to compete for customers seeking a large, spacious electric SUV that can take the whole family on trips without sacrificing good range. The 90X isn’t intended to offer significantly more mileage than the 90; instead, it adds all-wheel drive, improved performance, and an additional 200 kilograms of towing capacity—three advantages that likely outweigh the reduced range it comes at.
