The new Volvo XC60 plug-in hybrid has a 200 km range on electric power.

After nearly a decade, the second generation of the Volvo XC60 has been completely refreshed. Despite the success of its electric counterpart, the new EX60, the Swedish brand has chosen to extend the commercial life of the traditional model through a restyling that affects not only its appearance but also its features and mechanics.
Exteriorly, the new XC60 differs from its predecessor with a completely redesigned front and rear end, featuring a new grille and bumpers. The front headlights utilize Matrix LED technology and incorporate the iconic “Thor’s Hammer” lighting pattern in the form of a horizontal T, one of the most distinctive features of Volvo models launched since 2015.
The interior sees little change beyond the addition of new upholstery and decorative trims. However, the infotainment system (still paired with an 11.2-inch touchscreen) has been updated to include Google’s Gemini assistant. According to the manufacturer, the vehicle can now recognize everyday language and engage in natural conversations with the driver.
The plug-in hybrid versions, T6 AWD Long-range PHEV and T8 AWD Long-range PHEV, feature a new battery with a usable capacity of 37.9 kWh. Their electric range is 200 km and 189 km respectively under WLTP standards; thus, they represent the most capable plug-in hybrids in their class. For comparison, the previous model had a merely acceptable electric range of around 83 km WLTP.

The Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid achieves 160 km WLTP range
But this isn’t the only new development announced by the Swedish brand, whose XC90 has also received an improved plug-in hybrid version. Named T8, this edition offers 160 km WLTP range; once again, one of the highest figures in the market. Similar to the XC60/EX60 duo, the XC90 comes with a 100% electric counterpart in its lineup: the EX90, which was recently upgraded with an 800-volt system.
Like the XC60, it also comes equipped with the Gemini assistant (keep in mind that Volvo’s infotainment systems are based on Android Automotive). No aesthetic changes have been made this time, as the EX90 underwent a complete refresh in 2024.

"The XC60 is our best-selling model of all time, while the XC90 marked the beginning of our journey in the premium segment," says Håkan Samuelsson, President and CEO of Volvo Cars. "Now, as long-range plug-in hybrids, they build on that legacy and, along with the all-electric EX60, offer us the most powerful electrified lineup we’ve ever had in the midsize SUV segment. This represents a path toward full electrification for all our customers."
