The MG 07 dominates in China: 845 km of range for less than 20,000 euros is the formula for its success
The new MG 07 has just begun deliveries in China, and its initial reservation numbers have surprised even the most optimistic. Just 11 days after its launch, the MG model has received over 31,000 confirmed orders—a figure particularly impressive for an electric sedan in this segment, where sales are usually lower.
The MG 07’s strengths lie in its attractive design, highly comprehensive equipment, electric versions with a CLTC range of up to 845 kilometers, and prices that start at around 13,600 euros for the cheapest version when converted directly from the Chinese market, rising to 20,500 euros for the most expensive. This combination is proving especially effective in a market where buyers have more choices than ever, and where price alone is no longer sufficient to stand out.
The story began on August 21, when MG officially unveiled the new model at the Chengdu Auto Show. The response was immediate: 10,000 confirmed orders in just 1 minute and 57 seconds, breaking the brand’s previous record held by the MG4 at 39 minutes and 37 seconds.
Since then, the momentum has not slowed. MG claims it received over 31,000 confirmed orders between August 21 and 31, with initial reservations reaching 45,000 units on the first day and 59,000 the following day. It’s important to note the difference between reservations and confirmed orders, as the figure cited by the brand refers to officially finalized transactions.
A very low price, excellent range, and features hard to ignore
The MG 07 measures 4.88 meters in length, 1.90 meters in width, and 1.48 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2,825 mm. It is a sporty-style electric sedan featuring a fastback body design, frameless four doors, and a rear hatch that facilitates access to the trunk. It also comes equipped with an electric rear spoiler with five positions, offering 168 liters of space under the front hood and up to 697 liters in the trunk.
The interior follows the same philosophy. The MG 07 features a tech-focused design, with a 15.6-inch central screen at 2.5K resolution, powered by the Qualcomm 8295P processor. Higher-end versions include front seats with ventilation, heating, and massage functions, as well as a passenger seat with zero-gravity capabilities. It may also come equipped with a 21-speaker surround sound system and even a unique 30-liter refrigerator with two temperature zones.
But the key is that MG hasn’t tried to turn it into a simple affordable electric sedan. The brand has loaded the MG 07 with advanced technology, including a LiDAR sensor for the first time in its lineup. Higher trims also feature Momenta’s R7 system and an Xheart X7 chip designed for applications related to artificial intelligence models.
The range consists of seven configurations, combining electric and plug-in hybrid versions. For the electric models, there are options with 67 kWh and 91 kWh batteries, while the most powerful MG 07 features an 800-volt architecture, a 91 kWh battery supplied by CATL, and 5C fast charging.
This latter model achieves an endurance of 845 kilometers according to the CLTC cycle and is equipped with a front electric motor producing 235 kW, equivalent to around 320 horsepower. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, indicating that it is not a car designed solely to achieve an impressive range figure. The 610 and 650 kilometers versions use a 67 kWh battery and a 176 kW motor, delivering approximately 239 horsepower.
The difference in charging time is also significant. The MG 07 with 845 kilometers of range utilizes an 800-volt architecture and can go from 30% to 80% charge in about 12 minutes under MG’s stated conditions. The lower-end versions rely on a 400-volt system and require around 20 minutes to complete the same charge interval.
And here comes another factor that helps explain the model’s initial success. Over 45% of orders are for versions capable of exceeding 800 kilometers of CLTC range, a proportion higher than what MG initially expected. In other words, Chinese customers are not satisfied with the entry-level version and are opting for the more powerful variants instead.
The range also includes a plug-in hybrid option. The MG 07 PHEV combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor, offering up to 245 kilometers of CLTC electric range. With the battery charged and the tank full, the advertised combined range reaches 1,745 kilometers.
As for price, this is likely one of the most obvious keys to its success. The official price of the MG 07 in China starts at 108,900 yuan, roughly 14,000 euros at current exchange rates, although there is a promotional offer during launch that reduces the price to 105,900 yuan, about 13,600 euros. The 650-kilometer electric version officially starts at 116,900 yuan, around 15,000 euros, while the 845-kilometer electric version begins at 149,900 yuan, approximately 19,200 euros. The most equipped variant reaches 159,900 yuan, about 20,500 euros.
The formula behind the MG 07 seems quite simple: a sedan nearly 4.9 meters long, with an attractive design, plenty of technology, features far superior to what’s typically found at this price point, and a range of up to 845 kilometers. All of this comes at an especially competitive price.
MG has also learned from the capacity issues it faced with the MG4. Over the past year, it has expanded its effective sales network in China from less than 200 outlets to nearly 500, in addition to adding around 100 temporary stores. The company even asked CATL to increase battery production capacity before knowing the final scale of demand.
The other piece of the puzzle is the MG4 itself. The brand claims that more than 17,000 units of the MG4 series were sold in China during August. The MG4 2026 currently starts at 65,800 yuan, which is about 8,400 euros at the current exchange rate, while the MG 4X costs 92,800 yuan, roughly 11,900 euros.
With the MG 07, MG is trying to repeat that strategy but in a higher-end segment. The difference is that it now doesn’t rely solely on price competition: it offers range, fast charging, autonomous driving technology, and a level of equipment that can compete with much more expensive models. Early order figures suggest this approach is working, at least in China.
