The Mazda6e is updated with a larger LFP battery, improved range, and faster charging times.

When the Mazda6e was launched last year, it came in two versions. The entry-level model featured a 258 HP (190 kW) engine paired with a 68.8 kWh LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) battery, which provided a WLTP range of 479 km. It could be charged at a maximum power of 165 kW in DC fast charging (10-80% in 24 minutes).

The top-of-the-line (Long Range) version delivered 245 HP (180 kW), making it less powerful. Its 80 kWh NCM (nickel-cobalt-manganese) battery allowed it to achieve a WLTP range of 552 km... though at the cost of charging times: with a peak charge rate of only 90 kW, it took a whopping 47 minutes to go from 10% to 80% charge. This is a figure completely unacceptable in 2025.

The Japanese manufacturer addresses this issue with the new 2027 Mazda6e, which combines the strengths of its two previous versions: it features a higher-capacity LFP battery (78 kWh) that can be charged at a maximum power of 200 kW, taking 24 minutes to go from 10% to 80% charge. Its range is also slightly higher: 560 km WLTP.

Thus, the updated electric sedan offers charging times similar to those of the previous entry-level model and a range comparable to that of the Long Range version, making it a much more balanced and appealing option. But this isn’t the only improvement; other aspects of the vehicle have also seen enhancements.

The new Mazda6e fixes its biggest flaw

The Mazda6e gets some equipment upgrades

Firstly, the accelerator pedal response has been optimized for a “more natural and predictable” feel. Additionally, acceleration performance has improved, along with the maximum power of regenerative braking. The suspension also underwent some modifications, with adjusted springs to provide greater ride comfort. The electric power steering has been recalibrated as well.

The infotainment system, paired with a 14.6-inch touchscreen, has been updated for more intuitive operation; for example, the text-to-speech and voice recognition functions have been optimized. In terms of safety, the lane-keeping system has been recalibrated to offer a smoother response.

The browser’s route planner now displays charging stations and their availability, and it can recommend an appropriate charging spot if the battery’s power level is low, as well as recalculate the route if necessary. Finally, Mazda has introduced a special pet mode that keeps the climate control system active when the car is parked with an animal inside.
