The Mazda CX-6e is upgraded with a LiDAR and a semi-autonomous driving system capable of navigating roundabouts.
The Mazda EZ-60, sold in Europe as the CX-6e, has been updated for the Chinese market. The main new feature added to this electric SUV is a LiDAR mounted on the roof, a sensor that enables the vehicle to offer advanced assistance functions (specifically Navigate on Autopilot for both highway and urban driving, a feature increasingly sought after in this Asian country).
Versions equipped with LiDAR cost an additional 12,000 yuan (1,571 euros at current exchange rates). The LiDAR works in conjunction with three millimeter-wave radars, twelve ultrasonic radars, and eleven cameras. According to Mazda, its level 2 driving assistant covers over 200 assisted driving scenarios, including automated maneuvers such as entering or exiting highways.
It is also capable of accessing service areas and overtaking other vehicles through automatic lane changes. When driving in urban areas, the EZ-60 can navigate roundabouts and intersections without human intervention, as well as make U-turns and avoid obstacles. This technology operates at speeds of up to 80 km/h in urban areas and up to 130 km/h on highways.
The LiDAR has a maximum detection range of 200 meters. Additionally, the parking assistant can recognize more than 300 types of parking spaces. Further additional functions such as memory parking will be added through OTA updates.
The Mazda CX-6e uses technology from Changan
The Mazda CX-6e is a mid-size SUV (segment D) that competes with the Tesla Model Y. It measures 4,850 mm in length, 1,935 mm in width, and 1,620 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,902 mm. It is based on Changan Group’s EPA1 platform; in fact, it is related to the Deepal S07: although its design is 100% Mazda, it shares mechanical components with its Chinese counterpart.
The CX-6e is equipped with an electric motor producing 258 HP (190 kW) located at the rear. Its battery is of the LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) type and has a capacity of 78 kWh. The range is 484 km according to WLTP standards. In terms of performance, it claims a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 185 km/h. It features a peak charging rate of 11 kW on alternating current and 195 kW on direct current (0-80% charge in 24 minutes).
In Europe, it comes equipped with safety features such as Smart Brake Support, traffic and cruise assist, emergency lane-keeping system, advanced blind-spot monitoring, and a system to detect children in the rear seats; however, it does not offer the NOA function that is available in the Chinese version.
