The Li Auto to arrive in Europe in 2027 gets an update: 480 kW charging, 96 kWh battery capacity, and 780 km range

The Li Auto i6 is set to make its entry into Europe with a significant update. This electric SUV will debut its improvements in China on October 28th, with first deliveries expected in early November. This timeline aligns with its next major step: going on sale and being delivered in Europe during the first quarter of 2027.

Its arrival in Europe has already been confirmed. Li Auto announced at the Paris Motor Show that Norway and the Netherlands will be the first markets, with further expansion to other countries following. There it will be sold as the Li 6, without the “i” from its Chinese name. For now, that announcement does not include a specific date for Spain.

Therefore, this refresh is of particular interest to European buyers: they will likely see a significant portion of the car available at their dealerships soon. It remains to be seen which features and versions will make it to each market, but the update strengthens its key advantages: range, fast charging speed, and comfort for family travel.

The i6 retains its large SUV design with five seats. It measures 4.95 meters in length, 1.935 meters in width, and 1.655 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 3 meters. Compared to the previous model, it keeps the same length and width, while the height is slightly reduced. It will be available with 20- and 21-inch tires.

The exterior changes include two new colors, violet and blue, as well as ADB matrix headlights that improve lighting and adjust the beam to driving conditions. It also features partially recessed door handles and a front trunk with electric opening and closing, operated via voice command or gentle taps on the designated area.

A 96 kWh battery pack and up to 780 kilometers of CLTC range

The most significant improvement is found under the chassis. The new i6 replaces the 87.3 kWh battery pack with one of 96 kWh using lithium-iron phosphate cells, integrated into Li Auto’s new Lianshan technology platform. This represents an additional 8.7 kWh, a nearly 10% increase, although the provided information does not distinguish between total capacity and usable capacity.

The rear-wheel-drive version boasts 780 kilometers on the CLTC cycle and around 680 km on the WLTP cycle, while the all-wheel-drive variant achieves 710 kilometers on the CLTC cycle. These figures represent respective increases of 60 and 50 kilometers over the previous version.

The electrical system features an 800-volt architecture with a 5C charging rate. The manufacturer specifies a peak power of 480 kW, allowing it to recover up to 500 kilometers of range in ten minutes. To assess its performance on European roads, it’s important to understand the charging curve and see how it maintains power with the chargers available there.

In terms of performance, the rear-wheel-drive version uses a 250 kW (340 HP) engine with 425 Nm of torque. The all-wheel-drive version adds a front engine of 150 kW, resulting in a combined power output of 400 kW (544 HP) and 660 Nm of torque. This setup gives drivers the option to prioritize range or greater acceleration and traction.

The interior also undergoes a thorough renovation. The main highlight is a 29-inch panoramic screen with 6K resolution, paired with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8797 processor, which replaces the previous 8295P. The system supports Apple CarPlay, HiCar, and CarLink; it also allows the use of car-specific apps while maintaining a connection to the phone.

For Europe, Li Auto has already announced a dedicated software platform featuring eight European languages and services tailored to our markets. This development will be just as important as the size of the screens: navigation, connectivity, and ease of use will play a significant role in the daily driving experience.

Comfort is once again a top priority. The two front seats feature a “zero gravity” recline position with up to 150 degrees of tilt, 18-point massage functionality, and adjustable footrests with heating. The brand has also improved the footspace for rear passengers and added a five-zone climate control system.

The second row features a 21-inch entertainment screen with 4K resolution. One of the rear seats offers up to 140 degrees of recline and a footrest, while USB-C ports have been moved to the armrests for easier access. The refrigerator includes an electric opening mechanism and a freezing function.

The Chinese update also introduces Li Auto’s Mach M100 driving assistance processor, with a computing power of 1,280 TOPS. The higher-end configuration may include two chips and four lidar sensors. It will take until the European specification is released to know what hardware and features will be available there: computing power alone does not determine the system’s performance.

Li Auto will support its entry into Europe with a after-sales infrastructure that includes a regional parts center in the Netherlands, roadside assistance, and customer service.

There are no prices available for our market yet. A key factor in evaluating this offering, which on paper combines a highly equipped interior with a decent range battery, a more than competent fast charging system, and above all, plenty of luxury and technology inside, is still to be determined.
