The BMW iX3 is a complete success, with over 100,000 orders in just 1 year.

Just over a year after its launch, the BMW iX3 has received more than 100,000 orders alone in the European market. “Reaching 100,000 orders in one year is an excellent start for the Neue Klasse,” says Jochen Goller, head of global sales, brand management, and marketing at BMW.

Currently, the iX3 accounts for half of the orders for the X3 series; it is also seeing strong initial demand in markets such as China. Units destined for North America will be produced at the plant in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, starting in 2027, while those for the Asian market are manufactured in Shenyang, China.

Following the iX3, BMW is preparing to launch the second model in the Neue Klasse series, the i3. Built on the same platform, this model offers even greater range than its SUV counterpart thanks to improved aerodynamics: while the iX3 achieves an already impressive 805 km WLTP range, the i3 reaches 906 km WLTP, which explains the public’s enthusiasm—the surge in orders since reservations opened in mid-June has forced a review of production plans.

"With the all-electric BMW i3, we bring together what must be combined: the Series 3 represents BMW better than almost any other model, and the Munich plant represents our brand better than almost any other factory," said Raymond Wittmann, BMW’s Board Member responsible for Production, recently. The i3 is manufactured in Munich, Germany, while the iX3 is produced in Debrecen, Hungary.

The BMW i3 and iX3 are the first models in the Neue Klasse family

The success of the BMW iX3 isn’t an isolated phenomenon, as its two main competitors—the electric Mercedes-Benz GLC and Volvo EX60—are also seeing strong initial demand. What’s their secret? Very long ranges, ultra-fast charging thanks to their 800-volt architectures, and all at prices comparable to those of their gasoline-powered counterparts, the X3, GLC, and XC60.

BMW is preparing to completely renew its electric vehicle lineup in the coming years. In addition to the i3 and iX3, the German brand recently unveiled the new iX5, which is set to replace the iX; moreover, all indications suggest that the iX4, a fastback version of the iX3, will also be introduced this year. On another note, the i3 will come in coupe and convertible versions, which will belong to the i4 family.

It is confirmed that the entire BMW lineup will feature electric versions, including the compact Series 1, which is currently one of the few models in the company that lacks an equivalent zero-emission version. Electric car sales are soaring in Europe, and the Bavarians do not plan to fall behind.
