Einride has ordered as many as 500 Teslas Semi. It is the same company that boasted about its autonomous truck technology.
Einride is a Swedish startup that claimed to possess autonomous driving technology. As early as 2020, the company was “selling autonomous trucks,” and shortly after that it aimed to automate transportation in selected logistics corridors. Today, in 2026, the company still has little to show for it and—quite surprisingly—is deciding to purchase as many as 500 units of its potential main competitor’s vehicles. That is, Tesla Semi tractor-trucks.
Einride AB: Should DAF run away because the Swedes have nothing?
Einride has come a long way since its initial announcements about autonomous trucks. Recently, it has focused primarily on software that optimizes transportation routes, as well as its own suite of sensors and autonomous driving software. The company is so convincing that DAF decided to collaborate and install Einride’s complete system suite in its electric trucks, although the startup’s previous partnerships with well-known logistics companies ended in failure.

Einride has now announced that it will purchase 500 Tesla Semi trucks — the largest publicly known order for Tesla’s tractor-trailers — to install its Saga AI system on them and “serve Amazon and other key customers in North America.” The company aims to promote its software, which it claims enables the integration of electric vehicles into fleets without disrupting supply chains. For an industry player, the company has relatively limited experience, having covered 30.6 million kilometers using around 170 electric vehicles, averaging about 181,000 kilometers per vehicle.
The decision is interesting for several reasons. Since 2024, when Einride went public on Nasdaq, the startup’s stock price has risen steadily, but the shares were not available to the public. When the securities entered regular trading in June 2026, the price plummeted. The “Tesla” brand carries significant weight in the stock market, so the company can expect better performance in the short term. At the same time, there is a risk that Einride will inject huge amounts of money into the manufacturer, which could ultimately displace Einride’s autonomous driving systems business from the market (see: Tesla FSD (Supervised), currently not available in Semi).
